Songbird needs CD-burning ability. I installed it on my girlfriends machine to wean her off proprietary bloatware and DRM. It worked great for about a week until she called up and asked me how to use it to burn a CD. iTunes as much as I hate it, makes it easy for people to do EVERYTHING they want with music. Telling her to use Nero or any other burning software would make it too complicated ...

I think it's got to be a problem with RB's implementation on Windows. I don't know anything for a fact, just my take on it. You can Poll the socket as fast as the underlying hardware will allow. The problem is when you let RB's event mechanism hand you the events (polling is the antithesis of events). There is something in that event mechanism that is slowing you down. I find it hard to ...
