This is carried over from another thread, since I don’t want to further hijack that thread…. webby3650 - 28 December 2009 01:35 PM Have you had your flue inspected? If you found “puffy” creosote there is a good chance you have some busted tiles in there. There are some exceptions but if I find one I find the other. Good question. I was cleaning out my stove yesterday since it was too...

Cleaning out this new used stove pipe. Couple of sections have pretty heavy creosote that the brush is not removing. Strapped the 3 foot section on the front of a 4 wheeler where i can work on it. Brushing it is not removing the heavy stuff. Scraping it out has been pretty time consuming so i’m wondering if their are any tricks to removing this heavy stuff ? rn

Creosote Remover Advice Getting ready for one of my winter brushing and thought maybe this time I could burn something to help aid in the creosote removal. What is the best thing to burn to help loosen anything that may be stuck up there ??? (Tall 2 story, with 5' above the roofline)

Hey everyone I could really use some help! So I installed a new Jotul F602 in my shop and have been having problems with liquid creosote dripping down the outside of the pipe above the roof line. I installed all the pipe per the instructions, black pipe from the stove to the double wall insulated pipe that goes through the ceiling kit, and then more double wall insulated pipe all the ...

I cleaned my double lined chimney pipe over the summer. After the third day of burning, liquid creosote ran from the joints of the pipe that exit the stove and turn a 90 degree angle to enter the flu.Why does this happen and what can I use to remove this creosote from the burner and the stone surrounding the burner. Answer Joe, If you only swept the insulated class "A" chimney and not the ...

Putting up Christmas lights today, and while I was on my roof, I decided to look down my chimney. Took off my rain cap and looked down and saw around the rim a build up of creosote curling down. About 2 ft down the chimney looks somewhat clean. Should this be of concern? Thanks for the replys in advance. Oops, anyone help me move this thread to the Hearth Room forum.

I was down at Lowes, first year burner, looking at all the paraphenalia, and I saw these little 6-8” “anti-creosote” tubes. Apparently, you just toss one into your stove during burn and it supposedly just gobbles up your creosote. First, they’re encased in some kind of plastic. It just seemed counter-intuitive to toss one of those into your stove in the first place. Another product was a ...

Mine was. A simple solution I have found, is to block off the barometric damper. If I burn oil, I leave the damper functioning. If I’m burning wood, I close the barometric damper, and block it shut. This seems to have made my boiler less of a creosote factory. It also seems to burn more efficiently for some reason. I don’t quite understand the physics of it all, but I know that I like NOT ...

> I'd like to begin hunting with an original 1863 Springfield. My dad purchased the gun new through a magazine ad from Springfield Armory in the early '60s. I clearly remember it coming in a wood box and him taking it out, cleaning the creosote off and assembling the musket. It was brand new! Altogether it has maybe been shot 100-200 rounds. My dad hunted with ...
I have noticed some dripping from the chimney. The substance was below chimney in the snow. Brown liquid with creosote smell. My chimney cap is clean. I also been burning clean, no Smoke from chimney. Is this from warm air mixing with the cold at the top of the chimney and cap causing condensation?

My NC-30 Has been Burning great in fact to great. I have a severe draft problem. I went through a couple other stoves thinking this was the probem. After getting my 30 I was getting max 3-4 hourd burns with good dry Black Walnut. No creosote problems but my Chimney is 38 to40’ tall. Read all about the Bungalow syndrome. As it got colder here in Michigan the effect increased expotentially. I ...

I have a 6-inch chimney pipe that comes off the furnace and goes straight up for about 27 feet. This is my second year of burning with it and when I brushed it pre-season, I got very little creosote out of it. I have to burn it pretty hot all the time to get enough heat to kick on the blower fans. In a previous house, I had a fireplace that was also a twenty-plus foot run. I have ...

Battenkiller - 28 December 2009 04:19 PM Clay lined. How do you detect a crack that “seems small and insignificant”? Is it something that can be easily missed by a pro? Would I smell smoke in the house during a routine burn? Can it be fixed? A new SS liner will be out of the question since I rent here. It would usher in the “electric era” for me. I was accused of starting a chimney fire ...

Nuff me here..CLEAN IT YEARLY...(just a few post found..) Chimney Sweeping Logs: The use of chimney sweeping logs (and similar products) alone is not an adequate substitute for mechanical chimney cleaning and inspection because it does not provide for the same level of protection to the chimney system. Vital Points: Each time you burn wood in your fireplace or woodstove, tar and ...

Do you have any photos looking down your chimney from the top? No expert here but so far not seeing any signs of a chimney fire or excess creosote buildup. Something seems off here.
