guys i have a 91 Gen 5 454 4 bolt main std bore block, one piece seal as you know. i want to build a 427 motor. replace your battery first. sometimes that would happen to me. you need to replace it anyways, and i'm willing to bet its the problem. because it was trying to crank leads me to believe it is not anything else because it wasnt wrong 5 minutes before it died out.

what would be the bennifit if i put a 2.5 crank in my 89 2.3l. im rebuilding the motor so i can put a turbo on, i read that the 2.5 crank is shorter lift.... so wouldnt that lower my compression... or do i have to get domed pistons... could i forget the 2.5 crank and just get dished pistons and call it a day... or is there a weight or structure that i am missing......

The fact that the stroke is a bit shorter then the older crank is no big deal. Tall deck or short deck makes a difference to the factory balance for the longer rod hence the extra weight. Again nothing that can't be corrected. The fact that it is a 1 piece rear seal will make a difference to the flywheel as with most late GM 1 piece seal cranks the counter weight is removed in the seal...
