I'm expecting and would love nothing more than to do this but financially its soooo expensive =( I was wondering who has done it and if you have ever had to use it in the event of a medical procedure and what the outcome was? Also I get these little e-mailes from my hospital telling me about my babies progress inside the womb and how its growing and what I should expect and ...

So, Hubby and I are both organ donors. My father was lucky enough to receive the gift of a heart transplant a few years back. Unfortunately, he died on the operating table during the transplant from complications at age 60, just months before our wedding. It was the most devastating experience of my life. BUT, our family has never forgotten that another grief stricken family gave my dad the most...

Anyone considering baking cord blood? if so, which provider are you going with? www.cordblood.com offers a registry and payment plans. I am undecided still!

This is our first, and DH and I just started talking about the possibility of cord blood banking. What are your thoughts on it? Pros/cons? Have any of you done it for other children?

I was just wondering if there were any women here who are already moms and who participated in registering their child's cord blood. I just wanted to know how much it was and a little bit more about it. I know it's a little early to be thinking about, but its just something that's been on my mind.

Hello! I am going to donate my cord blood unless something drastic puts me off (I cant see that happening) Anybody done this before? I cant see any downsides as they will only get rid of it anyway. You can save lives! I asked my midwife about it and looked at me like I was talking another language… this is a NHS thing so Im surprised they are not asked to promote it or at least ...

Just so you know, there is an organization out there that will provide you with free cord blood banking if a) you can prove that one of your children has a severe medical need for cord blood and b) that you're willing to have another baby in order to bank their blood OR accept donated cord blood from someone else. I'm keeping this in mind as it may be a better option, since it is based solely on...

This is something you usually can't just do on a whim unless your hospital has a program like that. I had to apply for screening and line things up months ago and just got my kit to bring with to the hospital..and they sent doc training materials months ago also....and you do not have access to your own cord blood. Once it is donated, it is donated... And I know if I deliver Fri-Sun they ...

Not sure about the US but in Canada we have public cord blood registry through the national agency responsible for blood services. I believe we will go with that because based on the research we've done, private cord blood banking is seldom utilized and it is becoming fairly easy to get a match through the public registry. It's free and can save another child's life if mine never needs it, and I...
