I'm going to be picking up a Samsung 50'' Plasma TV today from Best Buy and I've been doing some research and discovered that the dynamic contrast ratios that companies claim are a bit exaggerated. Here is the link to the TV. The model number is PN50B530S2F: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung+-+50%22+****/+ 1080p+/+600Hz+/+Plasma+HDTV/9290117.p?skuId=929011 7&id=1218075402383 (sorry, could ...

Hi everybody, I'm gonna purchase the 27" iMac but I'm curious about an aspect of monitors I've never considered. The iMac has a contrast ratio of 1000:1. When I look at ads for TVs, whether it's LCDs or plasmas, the contrast ratios are significantly greater. Can the contrast ratios of TVs be compared directly to computer monitors? Is for example the 1000:1 on the iMac ...

I want to buy a LCD monitor. I like the Samsung SM-T260 26'' but I haven't made my mind yet. I have seen a lot of LCD monitors (I still use a 19'' CRT) and the dynamic contrast is going, at some point, to annoy me. Is there a setting in the T260 and in other LCDs out there to disable it? In reviews, for a few monitors, I've read, this isn't mentioned...

I am looking at buying TVs and the two questions I have about the TV (LCD) specifics are: is a 120 Hz refresh rate noticabe? I see TVs out there that have a 240 Hz rate. I know what this means but I am not sure if I would notice the difference when watching sports. Also, the same question for the contrast ratio. ...

yep, dont listen to anything that says "dynamic contrast" or "gray to gray" That's just plain silly marketing. However, if you have ever seen an OLED tv in person (CES show last year) their claimed 3gazillion:1 contrast ratio may have *some* truth.... drool....

I can't find it on that model, but I don't think I've seen a plasma under ~15,000 native contrast ratio (that's one of plasmas strong points). The heat issue pimperjones mentions may be a concern though!

The better the native contrast resolution, the better the picture. Doesn't matter if it is a game or movie. However, contrast ratio is only one variable in the overall picture quality equation. In terms of shopping, you really need to do so homework as the contrast ratio specs given by manufacturers are garbage and don't mean anything. YOu need to try to find the native contrast ratios in ...

Native contrast ratio is the important number. 3,000:1 is descent for an LCD. The best LED based LCD's can get up to ~15,000:1. Many lower priced LCD's are really around 1,000:1 despite their meaningless and "awe-inspiring" dynamic contrast ratios like "500,000:1." For reference, plasmas normally have superior native contrast ratios. The best plasmas can get over 35,000:1.

I have DISCS AND DISKS of PDF files for the reading. The Sony is the way to go, but the screen is like black on week old newspaper. Wait for newer ones with a whiter screen.
