Stupid question, I know. I have 2 older Commanders that I have detailed stripped hundreds of times, but I've never removed an ambi safety. The owners manual is absolutely no help. I have the grip panels off, of course, and if I pull out on the right side tab I can get it to move a little, but it will not liberate itself. I hope the answer is not "stick a screwdriver under the right side and ...

If its tongue and groove go easy on wiggling it (up and down) as you will loosen the groove over time, thus creating a loose ambi fit. I put a piece of dental floss under the right side paddle (against the pin) and pull directly out. No wiggling needed.

Well, I got my XSE Combat Commander back today from my Armorer. He adjusted the extractor and sure enough, that gun ran like a top for almost 200 rounds. No FTF, FTE's, etc. Did a bunch of combat drills and 100%. OK...I love my Colt again. A good shooting gun, I just need to get used to the thumb safety again.

Colt. No question about it. I love my Springer GI but a Colt is a Colt. Probably why I also own two Colts and will always have a few of the "original articles" around because of their fit, finish and shootability. They also have better resale value....Colts are ALWAYS worth more than any other 1911. One of my Colts is a satin nickle 1973 Colt Combat Commander and I ...

Make sure your off hand thumb is not riding the slide stop!! This will cause the issue of the slide closing after emptying the mag. I constantaly have to watch this myself.
