5 years ago or so I picked up a nice WWII issue Colt 1911-A1 marked US Property and US Army for $500 because it had been polished and blued. Today I sandblasted it lightly and parkerized it to help return it to its original configuration. I added some issue plastic grips a year ago or so. It's not original but at leas it looks like it should....

My friend has a Colt U.S. Government 1911. The serial number indicates is was manufactured between 1918-1919. It is in good condition - no rust/worn blued. The wood grips have a small chip out of them near the bottom. It seems fully functional. Any idea of its value? Anything I should be looking for to determine its value?

Although the 1911 is a great shooting pistol, the grip can be a little narrow for some larger hands.. If you were going to install replacement grips on a Colt 1911 - Gov't model, which would you recommend and why... 1) Hogue 2) Pachmayr 3) Other - Please specify..

> Hey guys I need a 1918 Black Army Slide in 70% condition or better. Need an slide noy pitted for a nice looking original gun. The gun has an 85%+ Colt Military replacement slide (small Clawson book, pg. 40) 1938-1943. The gun looks great but just not original without the slide. There are no rebuild or arsenal markings either. I know that there are some of these ...

If your intedtions are to actually use this gun, in a tactical or carry manner then I have been real pleased with the ........... VZ Grips. Micarta and G-10. I currently us the VZ "Operator" G-10's on two of my 1911's. Nice grip serrations/checkering that provide a positive grip with both bare hands and gloves. Impervious to oils and other water etc. Night Hawk Custom uses these ...

> If the barrel is nickel plated, then it is a Colt commercial barrel purchased during the 1960's by the DOD; at that time they had run out of blued WWII replacement barrels. With that much finish wear, I would expect it to sell in the $600-800 range. Neal

Condition and originality, condition and originality. Show pictures on the USGI section here. Dollar value can be substantial, like a couple thousand, if it is in good shape and has all original parts.
