Hi there - does anyone know of any community choirs in Auckland? I'd like to join one as I was in one in the UK and it would be a great way to get to know people. I have heard about the chamber choirs etc but that's not really my bag....thank you.

I'm sure this has been posted before, but THIS is the way our National Anthem should be sung. No personal trills, warbles, etc. I can live the rest of my life not watching and hearing what the "modern" performers do to this song. Would the magic one place his hand over his heart? I doubt it.

I applied to the University of Maryland for elementary education because I mentor at a nearby elementary school and enjoy it. But I have noticed that I am extremely passionate about music. It has always been important in my life, as I sing in two choirs and take voice lessons, but I never thought of it as a career. I'm thinking about switching to music education now, because I want to do what my ...

The most interesting stuff was the High Church Methodist Church I went to where the minister would do plain chant and we would answer him in Anglican (four part) chant. it changed every week and was more interesting than the standard protestant dirges. The best church music is the classical stuff in Latin which they do in concert halls. Took piano lessons and fiddle lessons for years. Then in...

Julia333 wrote: Heather, I also love O Holy Night and Ave Maria , though only classical choral renditions (especially boys' choirs). I really like Mariah Carey but can't stand pop singers' Xmas carols. Generally I agree, Mariah Carey's O Holy Night is an exception to the rule, (except for the Phil Specter christmas album and The Pogues & Kirsty McColl).
