The display will kick on once in awhile and it will stay on until I turn my car off, but then, when I turn my car back on it doesn't work like usual. I lose my speedometer, fuel gage, voltometer - everything but the analog RPM meter. Any ideas?

i have a 1997 chevy cabvalier z24 and i want to know where and what color the wire for them are so i can cut it to make them shut off, but so my brights still work. i know there is a way to do it, i just need to know what color the wire is. i belive its behind the spedometer and all that but im not sure, any ideas?
