I've read several posts about people who encounter the Time Machine error that arises when TM thinks that one of the volumes (source or destination) is case-sensitive while the other is not. Some people encounter this error genuinely, by which I mean that there is in fact a discrepancy between the file systems; this is not the situation I wish to address. There are other people - ...

Some of my files and directories were mysteriously disappearing and some of my shell scripts were failing after the upgrade to Fedora Core 12. After some debugging I found out that file name globbing is no longer case sensitive in Fedora Core 12, that is rm -rf [a-z]* now also trashes all files and directories starting with [A-Z], which explains the removed files and directories ...

I am trying to assign a task to another user through AdminUI.   While searching for users, I am supposed to provide case-sensitive search text to find actual users.   In previous installations it is not a problem. i.e only in production it happens.   Is there any place to modify this settings?   Please see the attached screenshot of the page.   Thanks, Nith...

With Windows 7, it seems that you can't have two files with the same name in a folder even if they have different cases. For example, test.txt is viewed the same as Test.txt. This wasn't the case with Vista and I don't believe with XP either. I know that it's bad practice to have files with the same names but different cases but I sometimes receive files that way for whatever reason. Just ...

Actually, this behaviour is documented in the ABS Guide: Quote: $LC_COLLATE Often set in the .bashrc or /etc/profile files, this variable controls collation order in filename expansion and pattern matching. If mishandled, LC_COLLATE can cause unexpected results in filename globbing. As of version 2.05 of Bash, filename globbing no...

Hi, and welcome to the forums. I've not seen any such posts here (and I read at least the title of every post in both the Leopard and Snow Leopard Time Machine forums). There are problems, on occasion, when there's a case-sensitive disk image of some kind on the internal HD (some downloaded software comes on case-sensitive disk images, for some reason); but that doesn't seem to ...
