Here are two carbon steel (D2) knives, I guess you can call them bird and trout knives but they'll make a fine deer knife too. They have 3" blades with hunter gray finish, shallow and subtle filework, polished on the edges. The handles...the red one is padauk wood with black liners, the dark one is cocobolo with red liners. Each comes with it's own leather sheath. They are 7 1/2" overall. ...

Hello Earnie, I am looking to weld 321 stainless steel to A36 low carbon steel. In your experience what is the correct filler metal as well as the gas and procedure to accomplish this. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Answer First... there is no "a" in Ernie. Second... the most common filler metals for joining dissimilar metals are 309L and 312L Stainless steel. These alloys do not ...

Dear Materials Engineers, Is there any advantage of using carbon manganese steel compared to normal carbon steel (A106 Gr.B) in fully pressurized LPG service (temp from 0 to 50 deg. C, press 18-25 barg)? In general, what is the difference between this types of steel? Thank You in advance Best regards, MechAdam

I'm poised to buy at least one Masamoto virgin steel 270cm chef. Then I stumble across the link on eG Forums regarding Knife Maintenance and Sharpening (I can't provide a link because I haven't made five posts yet). The author's take is that good stainless outshines carbon in the kitchen because of food acids attacking the edge, making it unable to hold an edge as well as stainless. I cut a ...

Hi, Thank You metengr for answer ! Yes, I'm familiar enough with ASME, and i do agree with You that "You cannot arbitrarily select a steel for pressure vessel construction". But I found some article in offshore industry newsletter about carbon steel tanks for FP LPG. It confuse me a little bit, so i asked about that subject. Bedt regards, MechAdam

cuts well, keeps an edge, but the taps are brittle, and can fracture if you put too much torque, or side motion on them. Buy the most expensive set you can afford. Be sure to check out Craftsman, too. Use cutting oil, and back off the tap or die to purge the thread cuttings to prevent jamming. If you're tapping a deep hole, remove the tap after a couple of turns, and blow out the ...
