Is there a way to set the number of CPUs SQL Server will use (SQL 2005 Enterprise)? I know you can do it per query, but is there a way to set it across the board (e.g., in the registry or in the configuration manager)? Thanks.

Since the Atom CPUs came out, I've wanted to get behind them. With TDPs less than 4 watts, they just seem like they could be such a great combination of low power, high speed, and rapid development. But in any desktop-ish setup, the overall power usage is just too high. A while ago, I bought a mini-ITC board with an Atom CPU. It drew 45 watts from the wall, idle, with absolutely no ...

Hi all, Is there anything special about HP branded CPUs that would prevent them working on say a Supermicro motherboard? I am looking at a 2nd hand Xeon E5450 HP CPU to replace the Intel X5355 on my Supermicro server (the motherboard supports 5400/5300 series). PN#459489-B21 if that makes any difference. Thanks, Tim

Since GPUs are able to be stacked upon (or next to each other), I wondered if CPUs can be stackable? Even though there's the i7, Quad Core, Dual Core, etc., I want to if it's possible to save money and buy some numbers of CPUs can can stack them together, so that I can increase the frequencies up to about 3.2 GHz and up? Isn't Dual Core something like putting two Pentium 4 cores ...

Hi, We have a large (8 CPUs, 32GB RAM) x86 Sun server running x8664 Debian Lenny, with Samba 2:3.2.5-4lenny6. It's a BDC and file server. I have noticed various entries in the log files that I'd like to understand better. Some machines are generating this: [2009/11/16 15:10:49, 0] smbd/nttrans.c:call_nt_transact_ioctl(2019) call_nt_transact_ioctl(0x9005c): Currently not ...
