I saw in this article: http://www.flightglobal.com/articles...576/forecas ts-2010-propulsion.html -mention of the CFM56-7 upgraded engine for the B73NG series. I'm wondering why a similar upgrade is not being done on the CFM56-5 that the A318/321 series use? I'm aware of the larger fan on the -5, and conversely the smaller fan on the -7, which may be what this upgrade vs ...

I've found the TOGA flat rated temp for the CFM56-5B5/5B7 (+15C) but I'm still having trouble locating the flat rated temp at Max Continuous Thrust. It may be a long shot, but does anyone on A.net know what the flat rated temp of the CFM56-5B5 at Max Continuous Thrust is?

Hello all, I just noticed that Aeroflot's CFM-56-powered A-321, pictured in the link below, has chevrons in the vicinity of the exhaust nozzle. Does anyone know the story behind this? Is this an Airbus upgrade or a long-term test article? The next CFM56-powered 321 (of Air India) off of the line did not have chevrons. http://www.airliners.net/photo/Aerof...Russian/Air bus-A321-...

QUOTE CFM continues to study a more efficient variant of its Airbus A320 family turbofan engine, the CFM56-5B. The advances will be based in part on progress to date on the CFM56-7B Evolution turbofan, an upgrade of the CFM56-7B engine powering Next-Generation Boeing 737s. The newest 737, which will include aerodynamic improvements and a new Boeing "sky" interior, is set for entry ...

Airbus will make a decision on whether or not to re-engine the A320 family "this year" and "ideally we would like to have it sorted out by Farnborough" in July for a possible EIS by the end of 2015, COO-Customers John Leahy said yesterday at the Singapore Airshow. Leahy said if Airbus makes a decision to re-engine, it would "like to go forward" with CFM International's LEAP-X and "a variation...

I'm not that up on the CFM56, but most engine designs with multiple spools have different parts of the core counter rotating to mitigate torque effects. Of course, triple spool will have two in one direction but I would guess these are balanced so there is an equal amount of mass going in each. 73's are still cable rigged, and such large rigging will always result in some tolerance ...
