In my Chemical engineering Course, I have an Engineering Materials assignment, which needs to be submitted by this Monday. It contains questions based on the mechanical design of a binary distillation column that separates acrylic acid from butyl acrylate. I'm required to select a material, which would be suitable for the construction of this specific...

Hello everyone! I have a chemistry lab involving the synthesis of Tert-butyl chloride, in one of the pre-lab questions it asks you to show the mechanism of the possible product that can be formed ditert-butyl-ether insted of Tert-butyl chloride, I tried to look everywhere I really did and found no answer, I would really appreciate if someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks ...

Butyl carbamate is a chemical which can be soluble in water. It is stable at room temperature in closed containers under normal storage and handling conditions. Butyl carbamate can be used for pharmaceutical intermediates.

I know that it breaks down/increases nitric oxide in the body. Is this worth using when BB'ing? If so which one is healthier Amyl Nitrite or Butyl Nitrite? If it is worth using, how should one use it when BB'ing, i.e. after a lifting session? Thx Gaz

I will be replacing our older hatches with new ss frame hatches. I would normally use 3M 101 or Life caulk but the more I read the more I find that butyl tape may be the new and better alternative. Any past experience ? Thanks

I thought that Substituents are named in alphabetical order. The first alphabetical name takes the first number i.e #1 So why in this case is it not the same? http://s359.photobucket.com/albums/oo40/jsmith613/ ?action=view&current=ChemQ-1.jpg Why is Butyl 3 not 1?

They're not all equidistant.  The two methyl substituents are on the same carbon.  The butyl and propyl substituents are equidistant from that quaternary carbon.

Does anybody know where to buy O-rings? Since as we all know, the rings that come with the blocks don't support chilled temperatures, I'm going to replace the o-ring with a proper o-ring. Something made of butyl rubber or silicone. Both materials are good down to -60F. Though I suspect the butyl rubber is cheaper. Does anyone know who might sell them?

School is out for two weeks so I'm starting to put in my new windows. Do I put the butyl tape on the window frame and then line it up? Or do I put it on the trailer and then put the window in the hole? Once that is done how do I line up the screw holes since I just covered one set with bulyl tape. The last "stupid Question, Observation,"...is butyl tape forgiving at all? Will it give, adjust, ...

Gary-there are no stupid questions! Here you go: If you are using "butyl" tape (not standard putty tape) it is not easily adjustable because it is so sticky. I put it on the flange of the window, leaving a tiny bit just past the flange. If the trailer siding is not smooth, put a thin layer of putty in each dip on the siding. If you need a quide, set the puttyless window in the hole and ...
