i was told by my dealership that the 2 mounting brackets that attach to the stock radio cost almost $50 each, so about $100 total, plus i would have to order them since they are not in stock. do i have any other options to install an aftermarket double din unit without having to use the factory mounting brackets? thanks in advance.

Multiply 2 times X then multiply 2 times 4 and that will give you= 2X + 8 + (X+6) The bracket around X+6 let you know you know not to multiply it by two so you can say 2X+8+x +6. Then add the like variables as such 2X + X = 3X 8+6 =14 simplified it is 3X + 14
