So I'm a little upset.... I was washing Rose yesterday, i went the whole hog as i hadn't washed her in about a week and the mud had baked on lying next to the radiator, so i removed the chain and chainset to get right in to all the nooks and crannys...upon removing the mud i found this: The bike is only around 5 months old and has not had a hard life. I'm going to ...

I recently went through the rite of passage involving the first severely annoying creak on my bike. I read the posts linked below, considered the possibilities, cursed, banged on the bike, adjusted bolts, tensions, etc., and finally brought the bike to the shop. Turns out the creak was coming from the bottom bracket. I had ridden in the rain and sure enough, the threads of the BB got saturated...

I have done some cursory searches, but have not found anyone who definitively states that they are running a Chris King bottom bracket with Surly Mr. Whrily cranks. Based on product description it seems possible, but if anyone could offer firsthand experience that would be great.

Hey Experts and Enthusiasts, I just picked up a sick 2004 brand new Jamis Dakar xc comp frame...the guy i bought it from was aswome and it came new with a new fox float r...not a bad deal for $350! And i have a Jamis Eureka sport from the same year. All the components match up perfectly for a transfer except the BB. Now the Eureka Sport has a Shimano BB-ES50 110mm spindle; where ...

My bottom bracket has a bit of play in it and is grinding a bit. I'd guesstimate the 'play' is .2 - .5mm. Is this uncommon or abnormal? I noticed the grinding miles ago, and fixed it with grease, but now that the bike is all torn apart in my garage, upside-down, I can feel the grinding in the BB. It has some play and just doesn't turn smooth, even with the chain off. Perhaps there's some ...

Hey Guys! So I am upgrading parts on my road bike, and I was able to find a beautiful and cheap 105 crankset...then I found a too good to be true deal on a BB...and it turns out it was....the BB I got was 118 in length for a triple, whereas I need a double at 109. So first off I am looking for a 109 length Octalink V1 spline bb. Which I believe would be ...

So I just picked up a new 7950 crank and plan on installing it. I will be replacing the FSA bottom bracket with a new DA 7900. My question is: Should I upgrade the bottom bracket to something else before I install? Possibly Chris King, will I notice any difference or is it just a waste of money? I know the stock Sram BB's have had some difficulties, but I have not heard anything about DA 7900...

As I was back pedaling to wipe and oil my chain, I noticed a popping noise coming from the bb area. I slowly rotated the cranks to make note of the crank location and isolate the pop. Then the cranks locked up at the location that it would pop. I removed the chain from the chainrings; still locked. I finally applied enough abrupt force to break it free. Now it rotates smoothly, but I am sure it ...

The SKF seems rock solid, though at close to 300 g. about twice the weight of the Token or American Classic. Does anyone have knowledge about NC 17 products? I think they are made in Germany, seem to have a solid line up. Also, anyone know if all the cartridge bb's use ball bearings, or are there sealed needle bearing options?

And a chain guide! Take advantage of the interface and get some form of guide if you are running a 2x9. For you, I would suggest RF atlas AM 2 ring with a DRS chainguide.

quote: What is the criteria for replacing a Bottom Bracket? How can I tell if its worn or should be replaced? I would say that the replacement criteria are exactly what you describe: lateral play on the cranks and grinding. One of the only things I had never worn out was a bottom bracket - until 3 days ago. My Dura Ace was exhibiting exactly your symptoms, took it to the shop, disassembled ...

I photocopied the plans with the hole and cut it out, lined up the rivet holes and marked the cutout lines on the bottom skin with it clecoed on the fuse. I also displaced one or two of the rivets aft of the hole to get better edge distance. Here is a photo of the finished cut: http://www.aclog.com/rv-9a/images/Fuselage/DCP_282 4.JPG
