I usually try to run a couple dry patches down the bore of a brand new gun, just to get out any excess oil left by the manufacturer. But the last gun I bought (bolt action.22) I forgot to do this and went to the range. I didn't realize that until after firing many shots that I forgot to clean the bore first. Everything was fine, but was this a bonehead move on my part? Does the ...

I've been cleaning my rifles the same way now for years. When I get to the stage of using a bronze brush, I always push the wetted brush down the bore, take the brush off the rod, and start over again at the top. My theory has always been that I'm pushing stuff down the bore and keeping it out of the action. Also, I figure there is less chance of damaging the crown this way (if thats ...

I've just picked up a nice little Rottweil (made by Fair in Italy i'm told) 20 bore. I haven't used a twenty-bore for a lot of years and would welcome any views on cartridges good or bad. I will used the gun for a bit of walked up game shooting and on the pigeons. Thanks in advance. Here is the gun

standard bore metric rings These would not work for me. My block is too worn to stay standard bore. They are Enginetech M40018 rings. These are moly rings that cross reference to E458k. $35 shipped. John __________________ 1992 Ford Thunderbird 5.0L "Undergoing changes"...

Hello all. Have been considering doing a big bore kit on my 08egc. How big can you go before a bottom end upgrade is needed? Reason i ask is because i was talking to a guy who has a 09ugc and claims to have gone from stock 96 to a now 106,with no bottom end change. So what is the real story as every body else ive talked to says anything over 103 requires a bottom end upgrade as well. ...

This conversation got started in another thread. Since a bore scope is more a gunsmithing tool, decided to post pics here. The question was asked how to tell what is going on in a barrel. I factory doesn't look any differant then a very pricey after market one. Looking down a bore with a naked eye is hard. Using a bore scope is very illuminating. I tried to get some differant shots through ...

What to do with a rusty bore? I was recently given a late 60's early 70's Browning BL-22 .22 rimfire lever action, and an early 90's Savage 110 centerfire. They both have some rust in the bores. I have run patches with borecleaner down em to get any fouling out, but there are still several areas that you can easily see rust ...
