When I go to File > New > Next Boot + Drivers Trace, my system reboots and I end up back at the Bootvis program. But, the checkbox next to Boot Activity does not have a tick in it. Consequently, I do not get to see the Boot Activity graphs. How can I fix this? Thanks, Jon

It seems to me that the boot process is too long. It has been for a long time. I ran the BootVis from MS and did the trace_boot + drivers and the information goes out to 112 seconds. The laptop is still busy populating the tray for at least another 3 minutes after that. Also, I have a particular program tha needs a service to be running and it gives me an error of so and so service not ...

My system: XP pro sp3, 2gb ram, Macafees security software. My problem is that when I install the Netgear WPN311G wireless card, I get an extremely slow boot; when I powerup, the system comes up in about 15 seconds and everything looks/loads normally per bootvis including a Macafees icon on the task bar, EXCEPT for my Netgear wireless WPN311 network connection and the actual ...

Use Process Monitor To Optimize The Windows Boot Process There are not a lot of tools available for the Windows operating system that measure and optimize the Windows boot process. The mysterious Microsoft Bootvis, which was later retracted by Microsoft, or Boot Timer , a program that can only measure the boot speed, are just two programs to measure the boot speed. Many tips exist on...

I'm sitting here with a laptop taking up to five minutes to boot. Having run bootvis I can see that there are four drivers taking up to a minute each to load up. I'm sorta stuck so would appreciate any suggestions in shaving off a few minutes from this boot time. Here's two snapshots of the bootvis diagnostic: Thanks in advance, Antar.

Timing the boot time myself I got 1:35 to get past the boot screen, 2:08 to get to the desktop, and 5:12 for everything to finish loading. Using Bootvis I got this: http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac130/chris628/ boottime.jpg HP Pavilion 513n Intel Celeron CPU 1.80 ghz, 1.12 gb RAM. Should I be getting a better time than this? Can post more specs if needed.

Bootvis may or may not run. I found it would throw up an error and fail to create a log file on my installation of xp and it hasn't been supported by MS in years. Try the msconfig disabling/enabling test if it doesn't work. If its an ide drive then there should be an atapi controller listed in device manager. If it's there make sure that neither of the channels have devices listed as running ...

Tippers, So it's a case of the doctor who couldn't cure himself: my own home office computer has what seems to be a very hosed-up install of XPP SP3. Computer is two years old, and over the past year the performance under Windows has slowed to a snail's crawl. The overall question is, do I try one more time to fix, or should I take the plunge and upgrade to Win7, or maybe should I even just ...
