Hope you can help, this is driving me mad. Halfway through installing a clean install of Vista, the install failed (i suspect due to a problem with the DVD being dirty as there is a large smudge on it) The PC now won't boot from the hard drive, giving the error 'missing bootmgr. press ctrl+alt+del to reboot' I thought I would be able to boot from the Vista DVD, but the DVD drive ...

I just installed a new 160GB western digital hard drive into my desktop PC, and now when I try to boot it says "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key"..... I read that the problem might be the priority of the boot devices in the Bios, but I went into the Bios boot priority and my hard drives werent there, just my floppy drive and my...

I've seen this similar problem posted before but none matched my specific issue. Got a free Dell Dimension 4700... replaced the HD with a new 80 gig, popped the Dell CD in the DVD drive and -- TADA. "No boot device available." I can get into BIOS and do all sorts of fun stuff. Rearrange the boot order, see that the BIOS identifies the HD (on SATA) and DVD (on IDE) both correctly. ...

Whats goin on here? I had my computer on in the morning to download the new WoW patch. I shut it off properly and turned off my monitor, when I came back after school, this is what awaited me. After a LONG motherboard startup screen which would usually only flash for about half a second saying Press Del to runsetup etc. it would go to the loading screens. Now it goes to Reboot and ...

Hi Every one, I have the problem just mentioned in Windows 7 doesn't boot but unfortunately I cannot delete my partitions. I have a SATA 250HDD and I had an upgraded windows 7 from windows vista which I deleted after some problems with it. I then had problems reinstalling windows 7 from USB which at last was because the installation disk I used for the USB was corrupted. I found some article ...

In bios you need to treat the new hdd as ide, not sata. Ide or pata, if it does raid, disable that as well. Even though the drive is sata bios will not see the drive that way unless you are using a raid array.

UNetbootin is the another utility to create the USB boot device for REDHAT Linux iso image. It allows you to create bootable Live USB drives for a variety of Linux distributions from Windows without requiring you to burn a CD. You need a broadband internet connection to download the distribution's .iso file .

Also, when I unplug the new hard drive, the computer boots up perfectly on just the old hard drive. I also set the primary boot to the old hard drive and it still doesn't boot. When I try going into bios before boot with the new hard drive in, it doesn't seem to detect my new or old hard drive. Why? Should I be installing some driver or changing some setting in the bios before adding a...

Quote: And... It's a dell monitor that isn't recognized. Imagine that. As lame as this sounds, but at the time it wasn't, the VGA cable was faulty. Actually it was intermittent but with that computer, for some reason or another, it just didn't want to work for the BIOS settings. It was weird too because it wouldn't work for CD boot screens ...

Je rencontre le même problème. Cinquième jour d'essai d'installation de la version 9-10 (antérieurement 8-4, 8-10, 9-4 sans problème; seule différence le disque IDE de 40GI a cédé, remplacé à cette occasion par un 160 GI). Les résultats varient: de no such device failed to boot default .. à Grub offrant un choix : 1) UBUNTU LINUX 2.6.31-16-generic-pae 2) UBUNTU LINUX 2.6.31-16-generic-pae-(...

No, it's a hardware (configuration) issue. Still waiting for root device means either there's no driver loaded for the drive controller or the BIOS settings are wrong (SATA not set to AHCI mode, doesn't apply in your case since you're using a PATA drive). for PATA devices you can try jumpering it as master and placing it at the end of the cable with no slave device connected. Make ...
