Ok, for those who are trying out the new Google Wave and are frustrated that not enough people are on to really "test drive" the product I have something for you. I created a public wave called Boglehead Wave. You can go to it or look for me kevinaom and we can use our favorite topic to learn and understand the Google Wave medium.

I had one of those "You know you're a Boglehead when" moments last night: I dreamed I was explaining to someone how a Bond worked and what TIPS are. I then told the person I had a great book, and if they were interested in reading it, I'd be happy to pass my copy along. Yikes.

Does anyone know of a book on the equivalent of Boglehead-type investing approach but specific to Germans in Germany? A very good friend over there is asking for some advice. For example, this is one of the funds, he was recommended: http://www.carmignac.lu/en/car....part-a.htm I found a translation of one of John Bogle's books, but I am looking for something more specific to...

After percolating on much-appreciated Boglehead advice, Iâm ready to shift out of pricier VG active funds, especially in our taxable accounts, to more tax-efficient fare. My new AA takes a few of retiredjg & YDNALâs suggestions. [Thank you both as well Lauren, Frank, Taylor, and SamLJ!] In the context of our financial/life situation (right below), please review our proposed AA ...

Hi all: Bogleheads.Org For Great Investment Info Quote: Bogleheads.Org follows the investment philosophy of the great investor and founder of Vanguard funds, John Bogle. In other words, one should invest in no-load, low cost funds as their management fees are some of the lowest among fund families and in time, high managment fees will erode one's returns. ...
Hi All, Time to upgrade the 30 year old GE HVAC. It is a gas furnace. This reliable beast will be though to part with, but it has done us justice. We got a quote for the following: bryant unit legacy line 13 SEER Puron System 3 ton 1 year labor 5 year parts, 10 year compressor 20 year heat exchange $4000 with taxes, installation, etc. Without getting into it, ...

Reading Boglehead's Guide to Investing but could use a little personal advice. I'm particularly having trouble figuring out what to do with my taxable account. I recently finished up my degree, sold my house, and will likely be moving around the next 3-5 years as a post-doc. So the money I made (I know I was lucky!) from my house needs to go somewhere. Debt: None Tax Filing ...

Diehards, After reading and digesting several books (including the Coffeehouse Investor and the Boglehead book), several forum postings, playing with money (because what I did was definetly not investing. Didn't lose any money though.), and thinking, I believe I have a portfolio that satisfies my needs at this time, is tax efficent, meets my AA, and is properly diversified to manage the ...

My wife and I retired in 2001 and thanks to turn of the century Boglehead guidance, we are doing great! In late 2001 we hit the road in our RV and have spent almost 50% of our time âon the roadâ. We have lived in our current house for over a quarter of a century. It was paid off before we retired, of course! We like our house and love our neighbors, but there is no way to park our motor...

Just wondering how other slice and dice Bogleheads do when setting their allocations to the equity style box?? I'm basically not being a true boglehead when it comes to domestic and international exposure in equity funds/etf's. Since 2005 I've strived to keep a 50/50 balance between domestic and international which has treated me well in my opinion. I believe true bogleheads are told to ...

Regarding the international vs domestic split, I just wrote about it on my blog last week . I'm probably not a true Boglehead either here in that I see a market-cap-weighted portfolio as the starting point for analysis (so roughly 60% non-US.) Of course, depending upon your situation, it may make sense to adjust downward from there in order to reduce currency risk. But the idea of...

German Expat & Laura: This thread is a good example of the Bogleheads Forum at its best. German Expat provided complete information--Laura's expertise provided sound advice and a simple, efficient Boglehead portfolio. Congratulations to you both.

DrHelen: Where do you think Mr. Swedroe has been for the past decade or so? That's very old fashioned advice about the role of FI investing: If I remember my Swedroe books-Winning Investments, Winning Bond Investments, Alternative Investments-in following their advice, I would not buy any emerging market debt (negative skewness, high kurtosis, currency risk-...
