I've been looking into these lately and I'm curious people's opinion of them. Is the only thing that sets them apart from the first flattop L-1s of the late twenties the added body depth and the inlay pattern. There are a few around that I know of. I've never really heard anyone on the UMGF talk about the one at Gryphon that has a few issues. It's interesting, with a few areas of concern but ...

I have a 98 jetta tdi(A3) and the body has rot all over. The engine and transmission are in great condition. I've got some experience in body repair but would almost rather swap the engine and tranny instead of repairing the body. Will my drive train drop into the newer body style of the A4?

I've looked around the other postings but cannot find the answer to my question. Just out of curiosity, can anyone shed any light on why VW changed from the Low Light body style to the later (up through '74) body style? Was it a decision based on the ease or simplicity of body assembly? Safety issues? Maintenance? Styling? _________________ Firemarshal Bill 1970 Karmann Ghia Convertible...

I have a large body, 12 fret mahogany Nick and have played a couple of others of the same configuration and 1 large body, 14 fret maple Nick. I've played but 1 of the small body Nicks. It is X-braced and is an astonishingly good guitar. A bit warmer than my A-braced L-1 of the era and a bit more responsive than my larger Nick. I share Terry's view (always a safe thing to do) that these ...

I like the older ones better, newer ones look like a tahoe. I want an Avalanche not a tahoe. The cladding has saved my doors in parking lots several times.
