We're moving soon to Bletchley (Milton Keynes) and need to sort ADSL - currently we're on Virgin Media cable and they don't cover that area so this will be our first foray in to ADSL teritory. Anyway, we're thinking about O2 broadband - is this a good idea? Why O2? Well, they appear quite cheap (£12.23 for the basic subscription), they won the ISPA Awards in 2009 for Best ...

We're thinking of going to Bletchley Park on our next trip to London. It sounds like something we'd really be interested in seeing. We kniow you take the train from Euston Station to get there. Does anyone know how often the trains run(from there and back) or where to find that information? Also, how long does the trip take? Thank you,I know someone will be able to help us.

Hugh Davis explaining the "BOMBE". The bombe was an electromechanical device used by British cryptologists to help break German Enigma-machine-generated signals during World War II. The bombe was designed by Alan Turing, with an important refinement suggested by Gordon Welchman. I was at Bletchley Park today and watched a very similar talk to this. A great vid for a brief look at the first ...

Sitwon , Neil Stephenson seems to make the case that WWII was won by Alan Turing and the code breakers at Bletchley Park. Alan Turning was a huge hero, but Winston Churchill's DURR DURR DURR following the war pretty much eliminated Alan Turning impact beyond some discrete mathematics and cryptography. The things he did during the war. He pretty much died penniless and with breasts.

As an example of the 'competence' of many US soldiers, in Vietnam, they used an anti-personell mine which could be traversed over safely in one direction, but triggered in the opposite. For some time, the US Army couldn't work out why their own men weree being blown up by these, until it was pointed out that in large letters on the device, it indicated 'which way was which'. It had'nt ...

I would certainly make Paris a longer trip. Doing a day trip there doesn't make any sense to me. I concur with suggestions about places like Bath, etc. I'd also like to suggest a day trip to Bletchley Park, where the WWII codebreakers worked. It's a fascinating place. A train goes there from Euston Station.

One day someone will be reproducing an ancient PC (as they did at Bletchley Park recently) and your collection will prove invaluable. Snag is that there is no way of telling exactly when that will be. A bit like collecting `antiques` for the future really.
