Me and my wife are planning a week in Bimini about mid April 2010. I have never been across before but plan on asking around once we get down there and in the water. Planning on leaving from Ft. Lauderdale, FL April 6th early in the morning and returning on Friday April 9th. Has anyone had any experience crossing this time of year. I have a 27' sprotfishing boat. Thanks for any advice. ...

Hello all: I usually have time just to make the crossing from Miami to Bimini, stay a night or 2, and head back. In January, I'm planning for a slightly longer (3-4 day) stay. I am looking for suggestions about a good itinerary and/or recommendations regarding good anchorages or marinas (or both) within a day's sail of Bimini (or each other). Thanks for your help. pete

Hi all, New to the RecipeZaar and was wondering if anyone has the recipe for Bimini Bread? We had this bread at the Bimini Boatyard Bar & Grill in Ft. Lauderdale last spring and it's to die for! Anyone have the recipe they'd be willing to share?

I have a 2005 29' Fountain and am looking to have a bimini top installed. I'm having a hard time deciding on the design, color, stripes or no stripes. For those that have bimini tops would you mind posting pictures so I can get some ideas. Thanks!

Life just don't work that way crossing the stream, even in April. You might get stuck in Bimini, or in Lauderdale waiting to cross. If you fit under the Julia Tuttle that would be my plan........... i2f

You can cross at any time of year, and depending on your boat and your crew, you can (generally) stick to a fixed schedule. I went across once in the classic "don't go" conditions, wind had been blowing steady from NE at 20+ kts for 3 days, seas were 8-10' N swells and 5-6' NE waves. We were an experienced crew of 4 on a 51' Dufour (triple reefed), and while it wasn't fun (by any definition), ...

For diving, and snorkeling there's the wreck just south of Bimini. In early summer there's usually lots of rays in Honeymoon Harbour. I don't know about the rest of the year? You do realise weather may not be in your favor for such a short schedule?....... i2f

I saw at West Marine the other day that they sell Bimini DIY components to put together your own 'custom' Bimini. The fabric Bimini itself was around $99 and they carried stock lengths of stainless tubing and corners, connectors, etc. It looked pretty slick, and reasonable, particularly considering its West Marine.

Update from Bimini. We departed Lauderdale at 5AM with moderate wind on the nose (of course). Wind and waves built thru out the day making for an uncomfortable ride. Arrived Bimiini at 4PM. The "newly dredged" entry channel is barely 6' and shoaling making for a rather scary entrance. We made it in fine and are docked at Bimini Blue Water Marina ($1/ft) which has a very good and helpful staff. ...

Johnny Socko you mentioned the Bimini Slough ; several times today I came across references to Sacatela Creek. I believe they are possibly one and the same. http://militantangeleno.blogspot.com/

i call the Bahamas the Unfinished Islands... everywhere you go you see unfinished developments or derelict building. it's really incredible... when you get into Bimini, the first thing you see on the port side is the shell of that old hotel right by the seaplane ramp. on the stbd side, along the South Bimini beach, you have two or three abandoned homes on teh beach! chub Cay? the marina is...

Bimini Blue was not available in '91. Ultra Blue was only available on GTs. I have a '91 Twilight Blue Metallic(code MK) which is almost black. This color was superseded by Royal Blue in '92-'93. If you like dark blues, Royal is fantastic.

quote: Originally posted by Chesadena Good question, I hadn't thought about it. It is removable so I could just take the bimini home. The rack storage is covered but it is 4 levels and I am not in control of which level it goes into. I had your boat. It's a keeper. You can always ask to be put on the lowest level. When I had mine, I was on the lowest rack and had access to 120VAC ...
