Just booked this resort yesterday for Dec 29 one week. Am somewhat fearful as we're travelling with our son. Does anyone know what's happening there as we assumed the Barcelo chain is a great brand?

Hi All! We're planning a trip at the end of Jan - Sol & Barcelo are in our price range - just how old is the Sol? From all the reviews it seems smaller and more lush while the Barcelo is brand new and huge. Please let me know which you prefer. Also, has anyone taken the day flight excursion to Havana ? Thanks!!!

I arrive on COPA airlines in managua at 15:11 PM on 12/19/2009 and I am wondering if it is worth renting a car from avis to get to the barcelo beach resort. Sunset is at 17:25 PM that day. Well after much web-surfing, reading and comparison shopping - I just booked the Barcelo for February 5th-13th. I am so excited!! I compared a lot of options and found that Mexicana vacations had the best pricing for air/hotel.... especially out of Calgary . $3085 (Canadian) for return air, 8 nights at the Barcelo, taxes/fees and 2 trip cancellation/change waivers....

Anyone know anything about the Barcelo being under construction? We have friends trying to join our group there in Feb. Their Travel Agent told them it is completely full and under construction. Could it be that they just sold out to Orbitz etc....? Would appreciate hearing if anyone knows anything.

We're booked! My buddy and I are pretty stoked! Read all the reviews and "we are not afraid!" Bring on the smelly rooms, bed bugs, and rotten buffet food - we're coming in strong with Febreze, raid, and peanut butter!! Hoooyah!!! Hi i have just booked to stay at this hotel next september! ive read some bad reviews about block 1000 and have also heard that this block is being refurbed this winter to make it four star. can anyone confirm this! thanks arlene

We're booking a private transfer between the airport and Barcelo Tropical. Some transfers allow a 15 minute stop at a convenience store, some charge $30 to stop at a liqour store or Walmart. So I'm curious........if you are going to an all inclusive and are non smokers-what do people stop for?
