I just picked up a second DSM and its a 93' TSi AWD. The motor is blown and the short block needs to be rebuilt. I'm pulling the motor later on tonight so I don't know the extent of the damage, but if everything is garbage - crank, rods, and pistons - I have a crank from a 92' GSX and I was thinking about buying the 6 bolt rods from DSM Graveyard machined to fit 22mm wrist pins and the evo 9 ...

Hey, I just adjusted my balance shafts and that got me to thinking... Anybody care to provide answers to the following? 1. How do balance shafts work to reduce engine vibration? 2. When properly adjusted, do they lower horsepower by increasing friction in the engine (that terrible whining noise when tightened a bit too much makes me think they use friction). 3. Even after ...

So, after I got my car all fixed.. I took it for a test drive and the cam gear bolt broke. Causing the cam gear to jump off.. I explained most of this in a different thread. Anyways, I noticed I had very low oil pressure when I was pulling it back into the house. I figured It was the oil pump that had failed as well. I took an oil pump off a 2.0 at the junk yard and was wondering if the ...

I've been arguing this all day with some hot shot thinks he knows it all mechanic who claims he's wrenched on everything from toasters to space shuttles and the Empire State Building. He thinks that the early motors came with balance shafts. I'm not so sure because I bought a Non-CB shortblock, and it didn't have them. I wish I didn't have to use the hobby shop on base. If I could ...
