One of the Techs I got via the bay came with a Gillette Bakelite case. I'm pretty sure they're not technically a set, but it's a nice little case. Unfortunately, it's got a couple of chips out of the corners of the lid. Is it worth trying to restore it? Or, should I just live with it?

I'm more of an electronics guy than a cabinet restoration one, but I've just done a mechanical repair to a lovely little 'Record Minor' insulation tester I bought at WB. It's in what I believe to be a bakelite case, with a mottled dark brown finish. There are some dimples in the base which look like they should contain cork or rubber feet. Said feet have disappeared, so winding the generator ...

Hello, A guy came into my work today and gave me this Pyramid/GECo phone. Its a genuine British Bakelite phone. The base I think is 1938, but the handset is 1941. I would just like some info about it, and if its possibly worth something to a collector?

Hi all I am looking for some suggestions on what to use when cleaning the base of a voltage reg and fuse box on a tr3. They only have general 50 year gunk and build up. I am not sure if they are Bakelite or plastic. I was thinking about using some wd-40. I feel that it has solvent qualities and yet is kinda harmless. Any opinions? Steve

I've always thought that bakelite magazines looked really cool. I wanted one in 7.62x39, but I refuse to pay $70 per mag. So, I made my own. http://johnny556x45.blogspot.com/200...-magazine.h tml

Downtown Seattle is not exactly a wonder of shaving shopping. This is Pioneer Square with the Smith Tower in the background...what once was the tallest building this side of the Mississippi. Smith was the typewriter guy....you all remember those right? In this square there is an underground antique shop that had one display of 6 butterscotch brushes. A couple of Made-...

Since I last posted in this section I have restored to working condition 10-15 radios, mainly woodies and the odd Bakelite set. I always said I would never start fixing tellies, but there is something about them, the 405 whistle, the look of them and of course the memories they bring back. Now this TV is a 1966/7 dual standard, 1 valve, 28 transistor set with 20 crystal diodes. This is all ...

Its me birthday on 29th and I have my eye on a fifties Champion midget TRF in white bakelite. Case has some hairline cracks and I think it may be a resistive cord model, 784? Its not dear and quite pretty, but are these little TRFs any good? I like to use my radios every now and again. Steve.

When I first received the AC86 a quick look revealed that it had no valves, a rusty chassis, no back panel, no speaker support and the bakelite bar and speaker ring were missing. Further inspection of the electronics revealed that the output transformer was open circuit as was the 2nd IFT and a bunch of resistors were burnt out. As the chassis was badly rusted I decided to strip it down to ...
