This month's issue of Sky & Telescope has an article about an astronomer who got really lucky. Alicia Soderberg had some time on NASA's Swift X-Ray telescope satellite. She programmed in a series of planned observations, and one of them was on galaxy NGC 2770, which is 88 million light years away. It is unusual in that it has had two supernovae in the last eight years, one in 1999, one in 2007. ...

or astrophysicist, then it would be worth it. If that child, now an adult, discovers an asteroid headed towards Earth that could cause a global extinction level event. Then it would be worth it. If that child, now an adult, works with world leaders on a method to avert such a disaster, it would be worth it.
