My father acquired this rifle and a sword somwtime during his tour of duty in the Navy (1943-1946). Opinions would be appreciated. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v116/TheFox/Aris aka%20type%2099/?start=all

Need a little help here from the pro's. I've got a Type 38, Series 22 Kokura Arsenal Japanese Arisaka that was made sometime in the later 3rd of the 1930s (best guess by serial). My problem is on the buttplate. When I tried to reinstall the butt plate after de-rusting the rifle, the bottom screw of the two that holds the butt plate on just pushed right in. The wood was rotted out in the screw...

Hello there, I've been trying to find the twist rate of a Type 38 Japanese Arisaka. It is a 6.5x50mm rifle I had re chambered for 6.5x55mm Swedish. I know I can probably do the old cleaning rod/count the turns trick, but I typically get erroneous results. Does anyone actually have documented data? Thanks

First posted this in the sporter forum and it was suggested I bring it up here. What do you guys think. Was out pawnshop prowling today and came across a sporterized arisaka type 38. The shop claims it to be a 257 roberts, but it appears to still have the military barrel on it. You can see a lighter area in the finish where the rear site was removed. The rifle looks very nice, ...

I have inherited a Japanese Arisaka Type 99 WWII rifle that my grandfather brought back from the Pacific. The gun still functions fine, but age has corroded a lot of the exposed bluing on the slide and barrel. I don't want to fire the gun, but would like to bring it back to good shape. Will re-bluing destroy the insignia on the gun? I will never sell the gun and am not concerned with a ...

Do NOT re-blue it! That destroys its character and value altogether. That appears to be a mid to late WWII made Type 99 that looks to be in solid condition. Ok, so it's mum is ground, it still has aircraft sights and if you can find the matching bayonet....you have maybe doubled its value, as some Japanese bayonets are very rare and having one serialized to the rifle definitely...

The character the rifle has speaks for itself. now, I just need to find the best way to repair the rear butt plate screw hole. The hole was rotted out, so the butt plate is only being held on by the top screw. __________________ Mosin Nagant evangelist on a mission to convert YOU!

Thank you for your input. You are very observant. My father gave me this rifle over 30 years ago. I disassembled the rifle many years ago to see what the part markings were and to clean it. The only thing that I ever recall applying to the stock was BLO. The bolt numbers do match the receiver serial number. While the value of the rifle would be interesting, I consider it to be a family ...

From an earlier gun thread: Quote: Here are my military surplus rifles. Top is a Japanese WW2 Arisaka Type 99 that has been converted to 30.06 and had the stock chopped down . Middle is my postwar Yugoslavian M48A Mauser, my first gun. Bottom is my M-1 Garand . I also have a Win. 1897 shotty that belonged to my grandpa. I guess all of my firearms ...

eb1, I've never tried the Hodgdon version, but I've always gotten good results with the IMR stuff. I first tried it in the early 80's in a 7.7mm Arisaka, because the load manual I had said it gave good accuracy in a variety of medium-sized cartridges. At one time, dozens of commercial rounds and nearly all US military ammo was loaded with it, with the likely exception of 5.56 ammo. I use it ...
