I have noticed today that with the GXR in A mode, the shutter speed is somehow limited to 1/1000s when it is shot wide open (ie F2.5). But when other apertures are selected, the shutter speed does adjust to faster than 1/1000s. I found nothing in the GXR manual that addresses this. Does anyone know if this is normal?

I have just discovered that the G10, when in Aperture Priority mode limits shutter speeds to a maximum of 1 second. This presents a problem for night scene HDR exposure bracketing, among other situations. I need more than one second. Am I missing something? Or is this a 'Feature' I have to deal with? Any insight or help would be appreciated.

Hello, I'm a Nikon shooter that just converted to a 7D and 580EXII. I've got a potentially dumb question. On my Nikon cameras, I typically bounce flash indirectly off a white ceiling in TTL mode at 1/60th, using aperture priority to control my depth of of field. I've gotten pretty good at determining where to aim and when to boost the flash a bit to achieve nicely rounded light and good ...

On a recent trip had a discussion on shooting BIF in A mode vs S or M. Specifically talking in terms of going from light to dark backgrounds and visa versa. I tend to shoot a lot in M and S modes. These were shot this morning with the D300s,300 2.8vr w/TC1.4 Aperture Priority, Spot metering and spot focus. I was shooting an Osprey when I noticed a Kingfisher flying across the pond(still ...

Hi ... I often read in photography books, the photographer will take photo in Manual exposure. I want to know what are the benefits of Manual (M) exposure as compared to Aperture priority (Av) exposure. In what situation using M will be an advantage ?

Does anyone have any suggestions for using the ZS3 in the equivalent of an aperture-priority mode, where opening up the aperture to, say, the dSLR equivalent of F4 or 5.6 throws the far background out of focus and makes objects / people at near or middle distances stand out more? Thanks

Until recently, I didn't realize that there are professionals using aperture priority. For me, I like the control, so I'm a fully manual guy. Do any of you other pro's use aperture priority?

I tried it for the first time yesterday, and seemed to get some pretty sharp pictures from it. Two days ago I went to the zoo and took 400 pictures and was very disappointed with the sharpness, color and depth of field. All were shot in manual. I used the Rebel XS and the 100-400L. Any suggestions?

I had reported in this forum, that I had received a box where neither the body nor the battery were included (the remainder was there). However, after contacting the shop, I got a replacement unit the next day and returned the box that I had received initially. As ardexx had also ordered an GXR, my report caused two sleepless nights for him -- until he received his complete package today. Gerd

Gordon, Yes, you expressed it very well - "I dont like the 1 second slow speed limit in Av mode. This has caused me some problems, especially when expecting to get three shots automatically exposure bracketed (AEB) for combining into a High Dynamic Range image. In these cases, I knew that the exposures would be long and had mounted the camera on a tripod. I wanted the same aperture for all ...

Only to a certain extent I agree with you David. For 'general' shots I am quite satisfied with results but where I specifically want control over speed or aperture its simple enough. What DSLR's do, is even at Program modes they give much better results and of course, you can use different lenses etc etc. Photography has become easier with all these modes and there is no reason to feel it has ...
