Hey everyone. When I turn permalinks on, apache crashes and needs to be restarted on our vps. Before our vps we were using just a regular hosting account and permalinks worked just fine. Any ideas? Thanks

I had this same problem. It turned out to be something in the stylesheet: a .htc file being called to handle PNG transparency in older versions of IE was not being called from the right location, and this caused the redirect to a 404. Crazy but true.
