Could someone tell me the distance from Te Anau to Greymouth? Have you driven it? How long did it take? I am trying to decide if we need to stop in between? Plan to stay 2 nights in Greymouth after 3 night stay in Te Anau. Will be a end of April trip. Thanks for all the help with my trip planning!!

Te Anau Christmas Day Lunch Does anyone have any recommendations of where would be good to spend Christmas Day lunch in Te Anau. Was thinking Redcliff Restaurant or the Fat Duck? Just somewhere with a good atmosphere. Thanks

I have free time in the following places on my trip, and need a few ideas on what to do! If anyone has any ideas for the following places that would be really helpful: - Mt Cook - Wanaka - Te Anau - Arthur's Pass - Nelson Thank you!

I'm currently planning my 4-week trip to NZ, and I'm doing a tour that will include Lake Manapouri and Milford Sound. The tour allows me to choose between doing the Routeburn Track versus two days in Te Anau, and I've chosen to do the Track. Because I'm missing Te Anau (except for a one-hour stop for lunch with the tour), I'm considering going back to visit the town after the...

My husband and I with our teenage son will be in te Anau in January. We are staying 3 nights, but plan also to go to Milford Sound for a day, so will end up with a day and a half in Te Anau - suggestions please? Walks around 2 or 3 hours, leaving time for a nice meal afterwards? Is the Glow worm farm really worth going to? Anything else please?

Hi everyone, Next year, during May, my family and I will be down in the Southern Lakes area. There is one day where we have no set plans except to drive from Te Anau to Wanaka (via Queenstown ) and my husband has expressed a huge desire to fit in a jet boat trip on that day. We have an adventurous, transport-mad, 2 1/2 year old who is below the minimum age for ...

We are staying in Te Anau for two nights in January and l was thinking of taking an afternoon ( 4pm ) nature cruise as l hear it is very busy and noisy on the sound at lunchtime, Would a 4pm cruise be ok, ie, would the sound still be at its best then or is an eartier cruise a better option? Also what is the difference between a scenic and nature cruise and should we book in advance or ...

Thank you so much for your response. Just 2 questions. On day two are you recommending staying at Greymouth and exploring Punakaiki from there? Also in checking the distance and time travel wouldn't it be better to: 5 drive Haast Pass to Wanaka 6 explore 7 drive to Queenstown 8. explore 9. drive to Te Anau 10. explore ...

Our current thoughts on accommodations are Abel Tasman - Ocean View Chalets Glaciers - Alpine Glacier Motel Wanaka - not sure. perhaps Te Wanaka Lodge Te Anau - Campbell's by the Lake I'll have to try wotif.com Any other recommendations for walks? I go along with OskarNZ. Te Anau is one of the most underated places in NZ. Queenstown is a great place to visit, perhaps stay for 1 night but personally I'm past the party set and preferr Te Anau and Wanaka. There may be other longer, cheaper jet boat rides but I'm not sure anyone jets your heart in your mouth quite like the Shotover jet!

Joking aside ... at least get a bike and make sure it works before you rent it. You can get a bike, scooter, bugster or car right when you get off at the nautical base of the LeMeridien in the village of Anau. It's hot, it's an asphalt road with cars going by you. You wouldn't do that in t he US.........or maybe you would:) If you are lucky the locals are very friendly and might ...

Actually ... if you really like hiking, I would have two nights Mt Cook and one either Queenstown or Te Anau. Mt Cook via public transport might not give you good time with one night - between arrival one day and departure the next.

I have a feeling of deja vu about this thread. Haven't we been here before? In short, as - numbers has already said, you'll see all you need to see with the no frills option that cruises to the mouth and takes in Mitre Peak. Forget the glass bottom bollocks as you only see anything once the vessel manoeuvres in shallow water. Bear in mind the Barrier Reef it ain't. It's above water that blows ...
