greetings-i recently had some dvds created at a post facility. the project was on an HDCAM SR tape and was a feature done at 1080p 23.97 16x9. i had the dvds made 16x9 anamorphic. when i put them into a dvd player attached to my tv, i hit the 16x9 button on the tv and the image fills the screen and looks great. if i put the same disc into a computer, it plays 4x3 and the image is squashed ...

I am going to build a home theater. The room is 15' x 18' with a closet at one end running the full 15' for equipment, etc. Question I have is whether you really need an anamorphic lens setup if you get a wide screen such as Stewart's Variable width 2.40:1 native Cinecurve screen. If I get that, do I really need an anamorphic lens. I am just in the research phase right now so I have not ...

Hello everyone, I recently shot some Canon 7D footage which is 16x9 with a anamorphic 1.5x squeeze. How do I un-squeeze the footage in final cut pro? I am fine with having the footage letter boxed. I saw that in the motion tab there is an aspect ratio slider. I think it looks right somewhere in-between -33 & -50. How Can I be certain? Can anyone tell me how to figure this out?...

Hi - Does anyone know if there are 1.3x anamorphic lens options other than the Hawk V-lite series? I've searched the forums, etc. and not found any alternatives, but it seems odd there wouldn't be any other choices in this format. Also, does anyone know where to rent the Hawks (or alternatives)? Thanks, Matt

I created a SD DVD from anamorphic 16:9 source material. I created an anamorphic sequence in FCP and encoded it to a 16:9 m2v file, using Apple's High Quality 90 min DVD preset in Compressor. I brought this file into DVDSP and I did choose "letterbox" with the understanding that this only effects how the DVD will be played on a standard TV. It does look fine on a standard TV (letterboxed...

I am accustomed to using Premiere to edit DV SD Widescreen 16:9 from a canon XLH1 and on the same timeline editing AVCHD. Ppro sees this as 720x480 1.21. I just simply reduced the scale of the AVCHD and it worked great till Vista & Windows 7. When Ppro was dependable, this workflow gave me a DVD that would look well on 4:3 and then would fill 16:9 on a widescreen on Widescreen TVs. Now, in ...

Hi, I've recently exported some anamorphic footage 4k files with Redcine (5623 x 2304) For some odd reason when I open them in QT the image are black. Actually with QT 7 pro I can see the image only when it's in full size. When I shrink the image down it disappears. QT 10 doesn't play them at all. Any idea? Thanks!

hmm i could understand that but as i'm monitoring on the attached TV the native 1920*1080 squarepixel format at 100% quality while editing in vegas on the laptop, it makes sense to just use that. also for anamorphics, it is so much more convenient to use manual primes so i'm shooting almost all DSLR lately, HDV footage contribution being now minimal to say the least...
