My daughter has had a reaction to something, but we don't know what. I took her to the doctor. He thought it might have been some cough medicine with codeine. That seemed to have been the case, but she took it on a Saturday, and didn't break out until Sunday night. Its now Friday and she still has weaps all over her body, and she itches severely. I brought her back to the doctor, got another ...

The "my mother accidentally almost killed me" reminded me of something I was wondering the other day. Say you had a food allergy, but didn't know it. If you started to have trouble breathing or whatever after eating a certain food, would you take an anti-histimine, like zyrtek or whatever, or would you take a benadryl? Can they help stop/delay the symptoms of an allergic reaction? And should ...

My wife and I are currently expecting our first child, so of course, there are many decisions to make, most of which we are as well prepared for as it's possible to be. However, the subject of vaccines is one where we have not been able to find legitimate references that address our concerns. As a matter of general principle and the population as a whole, we are in favor of vaccines. ...

but we have never seen any type of reaction. DS is 5 and has had nuts up until testing. We took him to an allergic due to his eczema. He tested positive for cats, indoor and out door molds, trees, weeds, grasses and small positive for peanuts and soy. We took peanuts and soy- soy as a main ingredent out of his diet and started him on allergy medication and his eczema has been under control. He...

Matt B, One of the concerns being studied at this time, even through the FDA, is the inability for some people to metabolize heavy metals as quickly as others. This may be genetic, and your concerns seem to be a genetic nature. There are some heavy metals in some of the vaccinations, and as everyone has posted, a book is available through Dr Sears that would give more information on how ...

Aww Kat. for BOTH. I'm so glad things were able to be worked out. Booo to the allergic reaction. Are you taking your benadryl every 4 hours? I think there's also something else on the market that's good for hives, claritin hives or something like that? I know I've seen it, but IDK if that would work better than benadryl. Ask the Dr. for hydroxyzene (sp? Atarax) it gets rid of hives, FAST! It ...

Quote: from gro at 3:13 pm on Dec. 4, 2009 Benadryl is an anti-histamine. Zyrtec is also an antihistamine. Of the two, benadryl would probably be the better choice for an acute allergic reaction, but if you ever have trouble breathing that you think is anaphylactic/allergic in nature, you should immediately go to the ER, even (especially) if you have just used an epipen. Oh, okay,...
