What would be the best way for me to say, "It is rare for a political allegory to deliver on the promise of its central premise" ? I presume that the expression "to deliver on [a promise]" probably does not translate directly into Arabic, being an Anglicism, but I hope there is a similar phrase?

The imporatance of the story of Jesus is an allegory. Whether or not Jesus existed would be of no importance, actually. Jesus can merely stand for the thing we might call the higher self of each of us. Each of us, at various times, is one or all of the people in the story of Jesus (or the whole Bible, for that matter). From time to time, we're all Jesus, - 'crucified' by others when ...

I've been seeing photos about Avatar lately. A couple of days ago I saw the trailer. It looked interesting. I was just curious to know if Avatar is an allegory to Iraq war. From the trailer it looks like the director or screenwriter wrote a critique of it. Does anyone else feel it will be a critique of the war?

Just saw the film last night and loved it. I've seen the original and liked it well enough. NOt my favorite and the two movies shouldn't really be compared. the original seems to be about a bad cop, who is drug addicted and is working out spiritual issues. The new one is about a bad cop with a drug addiction but seems to enjoy and even grow from the f ucked up things he does. In the end ...

Funny coincidence that the Thames river as it runs through Oxford is called the Isis. There are a number of rowing clubs and informal crews that row this section of river. From an article by Rachael Orland, in the Daily Princetonian: "The role of the coxswain is often one of the most difficult aspects of our sport to convey to someone who is unfamialiar with it", said Justin Teti, a ...

Nero says where he comes from, the Narada is a simple mining vessel . What the hell kind of mining vessel is that huge thing? Have we ever seen something so huge used by civilians in any culture from the 24th century? Yes I know the allegory that perhaps a well armed tug boat ship from 2009 can do battle with ships from 1880, and it to make it ironic that the mid 23rd century ...

The show seemed so forced. The situation with Mac and Alexis seems like an allegory for the Audience wanting Mac and Alexis hooked up. You know, the "kids" setting up Mac and Alexis is about the audience request IMO. Sam was so uncomfortable in the house, setting up Alexis and then the whole "She still won't tell me who my father is...". The Q's seemed pretty depressing, decimated as they...

I thought this movie was absolutely great. It is a not-so-subtle allegory for apartheid in South Africa that uses aliens rather than blacks/whites. It is shot in a faux-documentary style (except when the director needs scenes he couldn’t get that way) and it looks surprisingly real for an alien movie. The effects are great (except for the giant weapon near the end which doesn’t have quite the ...

Because Lewis himself said it wasn't, and the man knew a bit about allegory. However, the Christian themes are very clear if you know anything about the religion before reading the books. That's not a bashing or supporting statement - it's just fact. Would a child these days who hasn't grown up with religion in their life all the time recognize them as such? Most of them, probably not. Have they...
