Hi, In the ACS organic chemistry study guide, there's a question: Arrange these compounds in the order from strongest to weakest base: I) N2O--Ph--:NH2 II) CH3--Ph--:NH2 III) Cyclehexane--:NHCH3 where : shows an electron pair In general, to understand which base is the stronger/strongest, I protonate each of the compounds, which adds a H to the nitrogen atom for each compound. Now, whichever...

The reasoning is indeed correct. Remember, it is always better to delocalize charge over as many atoms as possible. I can understand your reasoning for wanting to think that since aromatic rings are so good at distributing charge, then why can't they distribute the charge such that it helps out a poor positively charged nitrogen. That's not a crazy idea. However, draw out what would happen (for ...

I was reading an article today which claimed that exposure to WD-40 can lead to cancer. WD-40's website naturally denies this, saying their product contains no "known" cancer causing agents...while saying the specific ingredients are secret. Another website claims it's aliphatic petroleum distillates and petroleum base oil in aerosol..whatever that is. Anyway, I know I've gotten the stuff on my ...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methylhexanamine Methylhexaneamine (Forthan, Forthane, Floradrene, Geranamine) is a psychoactive drug and simple aliphatic amine used as a nasal decongestant, putatively via acting as a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (NRI) and/or norepinephrine releasing agent (NRA). Geranamine is another name for 1,3-dimethylamylamine which is one of the ingredients in...

Tom, gluing the MDF panels into MDF stiles and rails is a good idea - makes the assy monolithic since it's all the same material (and homogeneous). I'll have to try that on my next paint-grade doors. And yes, MDF does suck up anything water-based on the cut edges. Yellow glue works well (T-1, T-2).

The scouts are out drumming up response to this topic, and I guess I'll bite. I have been using HHG for ten years. I don't use it for every joint, but do for the top and the serious connections like bridge and dovetail. Before that I used Aliphatic Resin (titebond) and before that I used Elmer's Glue-all. All seemed to work, and most of those older instruments (43 years now) are still on the ...

Notes- Use caution if you use WD-40 as it contains strong hydrocarbon (aliphatic) solvents, which may cause the paint surface to become clouded (opaque) or compromise non-neoprene rubber, it is also highly flammable (easily ignited by heat, sparks or flames) Don’t let it drip onto the brake pads as they will become ineffective and / or grab and squeal (MSD) – http://bit.ly/7mEGSb

Cheryld Otteray Mick470 Otteray- I contacted S&W a year or so ago about finishes. They indicated that the clearcote over alloy will tolerate about anything but cleaners with ammonia. I have found Hoppes Elite to be a good product and at one time S&W was recommending it for lubrication and corrosion protection. No ammonia. You can use Kleen Bore Leadaway cloths to get the ...

Nick, we are on the same page here. I started to blither before that there are two (after taking the nth derivative of the different opinions and then reintegrating for n times) end member schools of thought on the effect of water injection. The addition of methanol, ethanol or various surfactants modifies the argument by adding fuel or droplet stabilizers and I won't discuss them just now. The ...

The good news: Our roofs are coated. The bad news: our roofs are stressed. Lexan in a stress position is susceptible to chemical attack. The sun isn't doing it, chemicals in the environment are. Some may be due to cleaning agents, nicks in the coating or who knows what. I learned this 20 years ago right in front of my eyes. It happened in less than a minute and expanded over the ...
