Have my heart set on moving from Los Angeles to PDX so the air quality's bound to be better, but I was disappointed to read that the AQI (air quality index) around Portland is below average. Well I got off the phone with the Texas Commision of Environmental Quality and she said I would not need to permit with them, but instead would need to go through a homeowner hazardous disposal. This is because it is under 220lbs. of waste in a month. Anyone heard of this or had a similar situation? Or do most people just keep quiet about what they are doing?

To continue on what mguilbert had on the biologicals also consider the particulate counts (particles in the air ie… dust). It’s usually ranked by both quantity (count) and size (under 5micron, 5-10, 10-50, 50-100, greater than 100). You can hire it out or do it yourself but it takes a little more work / equipment. Also during the cold snap we've been having the air has been stagnant and unable to move for a few days - probably the most unhealthy it gets. Just like in the summer when there is a heat wave and the air just sits and becomes more polluted. Once the storm blows through tonight I bet the air will be crisp and clean.
