movieline.com — Here are some of this decade’s best, and worst, examples of graphic novel adaptations. And a note for purists: The term graphic novel is being used here to also encompass limited comic book series that have later been published in volumes. OK, let’s begin…

Other Philip K. Dick adaptations are Total Recall (1990), Screamers (1995), Impostor (2002), Minority Report (2002), Paycheck (2003), A Scanner Darkly (2006), Next (2007) and Radio Free Albemuth (2009). The Gospel According to Philip K. Dick (2000) is a fascinating documentary about DickÂ’s bizarre life.

I mean, are people just being lazy or has Hollywood really truly run out of original ideas for movies? If it's not a comic-book movie, it's a remake. If it's not a remake, it's a film based on a short novel. And if it's none of the above, it's a technically original but lacking in so many things sort of movie. I just don't get it.

After reading this thread I got to thinking. Now, I realize "Dante's Inferno" is to "The Divine Comedy," what "E.T. Cereal" is to "E.T." But I couldn't help but think that the idea of basing video games on classic literature rather more accurately would be a great way to cross-breed some entertainment, and get more kids interested in classic literature than might otherwise. A lot of people ...

> Okay now. While not unknown, this is the first time the the Pacific Barreleye has been caught alive on film. And what a cool fish it is too. Thought this was notable, given what an influential film "Alien" is, and how long long running that franchise has turned out to be. Among other sci-fi and horror projects, he also wrote and starred in John Carpenter's Dark Star , and two adaptations of Phillip K. Dick stories for the screen: Total Recall and Screamers . Sci Fi Wire has a nice write-up about his career here .

...and movies have to take things a level further. As a librarian, I see most book to film adaptations are not as good....but in this case...it was magic. Downey is brilliant as Holmes - best casting job - no one could've played Holmes better. Depicting 1870's London as he did, Ritchie created the perfect visual backdrop for the Sherlock Holmes stories. Yes, Holmes and Watson were sort of in ...
