Hi, this is my first post so, don't be too harsh Well, I'm researching an article for college on the discovery of the actinide elements (Mainly the synthetic ones). I was wondering if anyone knew of the ion-exchange resin used the discoveries of Berkelium through to Mendelevium (I assume they are the same one, yet if they are not one will do). I have searched online and through various text ...

Well it turns out the exchangeable ion in Dowex-50 is a H + ion, I'm not sure why he refferences a reaction with an ammonium ion, no wonder I got confused.

The OP wrote: the so called "rare earths" have not been called "rare earths" since the 1950's. They are properly called "the lanthanides." As skids points out, "rare earth" is a contemporary term. Also, they are properly called "the lanthanoids", not "the lanthanides". Wikipedia says: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rare_earth_element As defined by IUPAC, rare earth elements or rare earth ...

Uranium Is So Last Century — Enter Thorium, the New Green Nuke http://www.wired.com/magazine/2009/12/ff_new_nukes / Perhaps a little too optimistic on how well Thorium would work; and way to optimistic on how it could have worked had we gone that way initially, for example "And 1973 was the year that thorium R&D faded away — and with it the realistic prospect for a golden nuclear age ...

Thorium, the Green Nuke Aerospace engineer Kirk Sorensen became interested in nuclear energy by reading records of experiments done by Alvin Weinberg and his team after World War II at the Oak Ridge Nuclear Plant. What really captured Sorensons attention was the promise of thorium, which has advantages over uranium as a nuclear fuel. Uranium worked best for nuclear weapons, but it ...
My apologies for that. I posted this quite late last night after an hour of unsuccessful raiding due to lack of guildies online. Thank you for that correction Evv. @Actinide: A) Completely ignorant and condescending. B) See edited post please. C) We have only cleared 1 boss in ICC25 because of the aforementioned lack of raiders showing up. We have had to clean out our roster and are ...

Thorium is the answer. I hope... Also there are good ways to capture solar energy without solar cells... in limited environments though. http://www.wired.com/magazine/2009/12/ff_new_nukes / Uranium Is So Last Century — Enter Thorium, the New Green Nuke By Richard Martin December 21, 2009 | 10:00 am | Wired Jan 2010 The thick hardbound volume was sitting on a shelf in a ...
