Yeah, I think its very possiable for the infection to spread to the bloodstream, so antibiotics are usually needed. Sometimes they even inject an antibiotic in to affected area when they are doing the procedure in addition to oral antibiotics. I'd get a second opinion ASAP!

Hi Dr G, I have had intermittant pain in one of my molars going on 18 months or so. I was x-rayed intially and nothing was detected, I also suffer occassional sinus pain and this was put down as the factor of the pain, especially as it was intermittant.
