To show the differences in what stock converters are and what makes an aftermarket converter better. Attached are pictures The first shows the worst problem on AOD converters, ballooning. THey all do it, nothing will stop it, To some extent if you keep stock input shaft setup this will happen again with enough power. See the crank bolt marks in the front cover. Extreme cases have leaked ...

Well, after much debate, I've decided to sell the AOD I had behind the turbo motor in the late '91 GT 'vert. This is a Silverfox built non-lockup unit that is 700 hp capable. It's got 4r70w guts and a Lentch Street Terminator valve body with electric O/D delete. The converter is a PTC unit that stalls about 2400. This is a fully automatic transmission, meaning you can put it in O/D and go, or ...

decent AOD,AOD-E,4R7X for my turbo 5.0..??? Since my 5 speed idea didn't get much response, and I know you can do an AOD, I'm curious as to what it takes to get one that will hold up decent to some power? So I guess swapping my C4 to a more modern AOD is very possible? I really like the idea of having an overdrive, and maybe a tiny bit better mpg. On a scale of 1-10, what's the difficulty level. And a ball park figure, if I can get the tranny from a pick-n-pull parts place for a couple hundred bucks? Will the AOD be ant more reliable then the C4?

Hey guys, I need some guidance. I have the wiring diagram for the AOD: It has 4 wires. #1 and #2 go to the reverse lights so I'm guessing they can be wired in to the black-red stripe wires at the column (bronco was 3 speed manual on the column). Do I just combine #1 and #2 and splice into both black-red wires? The other wires (#3 and #4) are labeled 'crank only (park and neutral). If ...

All I have done is use it as my daily driver this spring & summer. I also had a heart attack a couple weeks ago, so it makes sense to sell. Here is the link to the car when I bought it. Pics are here. I don't get to the computer much so I'd rather be ...

I have a 73 convertible with a bad transmission(C4, I think). Have gotten several different quotes on having it rebuilt all around $1700. I found an AOD from an 88 Mustang GT on Craigslist for $300. I am going to be pulling the stock motor and AOD trans from my 88, hatch this weekend. I will be replacing the trans with a T-5 and do some engine rebuilding in the process. Are there any pointers or cool tricks I should know that would make pulling the motor and trans easier? Also I was wondering how easy the front clip will come off?
