I just need to reduce the bit rate of mastered .aiff stereo files. My sound engineer will kill me if the DVDs don't sound as good as the mastered files. Just bought new itouch. Supposed to hold about 7000 songs, 14,000 at 128kb. I have been burning & buying songs/cds at AIFF level. Is this why I have no space left? If so, what can I do to reduce file sizes to get the songs/video this thing is famous for???? hp pavilion laptop...

My main computer is a IMAC running iTunes. Over my wireless network I shared these song files to my Dell laptop. iTunes suddenly will only play my non-AIFF files. Hello! I have all my music CDs stored in one big external hard drive as master AIFF files. Now, since I bought new macbook pro I want to convert/import all the songs to its internal hard drive at smaller size i.e. AAC or MP3, using iTune. However, I just can't find the way to do so. My question pertains to cd imports only. I want to re-import a large portion of my cd collection in AIFF format and sync some of those to a 2nd ipod dedicated to the larger files. Ideally, I'd just import and add to my existing AAC collection on a large disk and back it up, or use a RAID. Hi Gang I still haven't found out why I get different decibel levels when created/played in a Tiger 10.4.11 environnment then played in a Leopard environnment. The levels are always about 1/2 the level when played in Leopard. These files could be AIFF exports within FC5, or could be any AIFF exported audio files created from Garage Band in Tiger then played in a Leopard environnment...

The whole point of AIFF is that it is an uncompressed format. ac3 sounds very good considering it's relative file size. Your sound engineer should realize that in order to fit the audio onto the disc, some compromizing will probably have to happen. In Compressor, duplicate the AC3 (Dolby Digital) preset so you can customize it. Set Dialog Normalization to -31dbfs and Compression type to NONE. -DH Standards are wonderful ... and there are so many to choose from! ...
nvrmnd. Stupid thread is stupid. I learnt that AIFF/WAV @ 44khz, 16 bit and stereo is the exact copy of the cd... Higher bits/settings are for DTS cd's/dvd? But where does that higher quality music/sound come from?
