Hi Gurus, I have a customer who is comparing a T6340 1.4GHz T2+ with a 5 years old 1.1GHz Itanium based machine. Although the T6340 would definitely win in throughput, he expects the T6340 to also win on single threaded application. The 1st test he did was simply incrementing a local variable from 1 to a million in a Sybase stored procedure. The 2nd test was an OLTP type DB transaction....

Hi I'm building a restful web service using the Starter Kit. In the first instance I need to put some legacy COM components behind it, but have just encountered the problem of single threaded apartments. I found an article dealing with ASMX web services on MSDN (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc163544 .aspx) and am guessing that I'll need to implement something similar. I am pretty ...

I haven't noticed this issue before as most of my applications are read heavy - but what's the expected single thread PUT attribute rate to SimpleDB? I'm getting between 10 - 15 per second which seems poor to me (on a small linux instance, using perl libraries). I know I could re-code for batchput, but I'd prefer not to have to refactor the code right now. I read ...

Still upset about Ole Miss. They might not be focused on us. Say what you want about thinking that their team will be focused, but when you can't get away from the past and what happened, it's nearly impossible to stay focused.

Some ridiculously old dude talks about how he couldn't sleep for weeks after he saw this film in the 70's. Nobody cares. Can you explain how someone can be 'ridiculously old?' I'm just curious. After all, time is passing and every one of us is aging on a daily basis (yourself included.) Being old is not a disease....it just means someone was born before you. Stay alive, and you will be ...

Riquel Many thanks ... I was wondering about this solution having explored the whole issue of getting data out of STAs. I wondered if this was going to be a better approach but wasn't sure that it would work. Given that, ISTM from my reading, COM+ is effectively an STA manager (I'm sure it's much more than that btw), whether I would encounter the same problem further down the line. You ...

I know that for you it's all about how society has completely disintegrated since the 70s when women were completely equal to men and had just oodles and oodles of respect heaped onto them. In fact, you make the point so religiously on every single thread I think you usually don't really even bother reading to figure out whether it's appropriate... anytime there's an opening you'll take it, ...
