Some cars are fine running on 87 or 89 while others have to have 93 octane. Most people run a heavier weight oil especially if they have a Texas climate 10w-30 or even more sometimes. Synthetic vs nonsynthetic is a huge debate, but most people agree synthetic is better. Don't use synthetic if the car has lots of mileage on nonsynthetic, otherwise it should be fine. Sorry for the mistake about Colorado. Never lived there, nor do I want to. When I first arrived in Utah, I asked the local Chevy dealer if it was okay to burn 85 octane unleaded in my '03 S-10, which the owners manual said needed 87 octane. I don't notice a power difference, although the engine idles smoother and there is a slight increase in MPG, which amount to about a 1-2MPG increase per grade.
