We just brough the above tv to France and are struggling with hooking it up. Is it compatible with the French system? The specifications say: - NTSC - ATSC (8VSB terrestial) - QUAM on cable - ANSI SCTE 07 2000 (Does not include CableCARD functionality) We tried plugging it through cable, which results in distorted video - color squares and lines, directly to the antenna - b&w ...

I have a file called channels.conf with the following line in it: Code: Select all KOAT-DT:177028615:8VSB:49:52:3 From a terminal in the same directory as this file, I am able to successfully tune the channel by executing: Code: Select all % vlc channels.conf Can someone please illustrate for this example, how to use vlc from the command line explicitly without ...

Lots of questionable info in this thread. The Dish 5000 didn't have an atsc tuner module. It had an 8VSB HDTV module (4PSK) that only output the dish channels for HBO and Showtime, plus a demo channel at that time. The atsc tuner was never disabled by Dish and continued to work but Dish Network simply ended the transmission in HD 8VSB format and began to deliver the signal using 8PSK which ...

It's not just a missing 8VSB modulator that you would need. Dish HD is non-square pixel, and not MPEG-2 for the most part, so you'd actually need to transcode the payload too, in addition to providing the 8VSB modulated signal. You couldn't just pass the digital payload through as was done with the modulator for the 5000s.

I'm not sure this answers your question... Maybe someone else has some ideas.. Here is some info that might help.. Here is a good explanation of 8PSK and MPEG4. You will need the module to receive the HD programming..... MPEG4 and 8PSK have nothing to do with each other. MPEG4 is a compression/encoding method and 8PSK is a modulation method. To give you an idea, in the analog ...

It isn't as simple to build an ATSC RF modulator as it was the NTSC modulators. Due to the fact that ATSC is 8VSB it takes more to design and build one. At some point someone may come up with a chip set to do it but right now I cna't find one tha isn't a commercial version that cost several hundred $$. So simplest thing for your friend to do is run an HDMi to the room or 2 audio lines for sound ...
