I read this somewhere on this site that Ford has changed the recommended oil from 5W-30 to 5W-20 on these trucks. My question is if I'm burning 5W-30 right now, and since the 5W-20's final viscosity is thinner, wouldn't I burn more of the 20 in comparison to the 30? Posting for a Friend, Sample shows high ammounts of Lead and Copper. An indication, according to Blackstone, of excess bearing wear. I asked the question that alot of Modular people have in mind. "which oil should I use? 5w20 or 5w30?" They suggested that it might be worth trying 5w30 to see if the copper/lead ammounts come down. Based on these results I think I am going to drain my current ...

I have not bought a car in 5 years. My girlfriend recently bought a new Honda and the manual states to use 5W-20 oil. I thought this was a misprint. the car now has 3200 miles on it and Honda's famous maintainance minder thing shows 50% oil life. I call bs, open the hood and the oil is BLACK. I have been using 5W40 synthetic in my vw's. WTF is 5W-20??? This makes no sense.

For the 06 model trucks is there an advantage to using a Synthetic Oil vs. non- Synthetic oil?? If so what brand should I use? Register today or sign-in to remove these ads!

I've got a 2010 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited in the driveway. Its got the 3.8 liter (mini-van) engine in it and Chrysler recommends 5w-20. This is the first engine I've owned that needs this viscosity. Its going to be a semi-daily driver with a considerable amount of off-road time on the weekends. It does have an oil change indicator system, thats based on engine operating conditions. It also says to...

Just got a new 2010 Fusion with the 2.5L I4. Nice car. Not suprised, but intrigued by the "normal" service factor of 7.5k miles on dino oil and filter. My question is this: who's actually doing it on dino? Any success/failures to report? I realize that semi-syn is "recommended" but all the major brands make dino lube meeting the spec. My daily commute is very "normal"; I don't fall into...

Did my last oil change a few months ago and couldn't find M1 5w-20 at walmart so Just bought the 5w-30 instead. Today I went to autozone to get some oil for my change and they also only had the 5w-30. So since the cold weather is moving in I just for some 5w-20 Pennzoil stuff in a yellow bottle. Is there no more 5w-20? Oh, and a random question. I have done I think 4 oil changes myself now....

Oil: My bad, I errantly told them PP, it was QS TP Synth 5w-20 Makeup oil: 1qt Oil Filter: SuperTech LC was used at initial fill and a few times in between PCV: cleaned at about 4K into OCI. Air Filter: K & N, thus the reason for a bit extra wear Wiper Blades: Rain-X I am pleasantly suprised to see a Saturn with only 0.3 insolubles after 7,500 miles. I fought that fight on my previous Saturn...

Anyone seen this TSB from '06 that says we can use 5W-20 in the MZ engines, etc. but states that it applies to '06-'07 model years?? http://www.chrysanindustries.com/pdf..._tsb071002. pdf Gets pretty cold here in the winter, might consider it for my winter oil weight if I am not risking engine damage.

Question, I'm planning to take the car next Friday for an oil change. On the dealer, they put Castrol Syn 5W-30 on the Accord and I think they did the same thing with the Pilot (2009, first oil change, 6400 miles). Wally World has the jug of Mobil 1 for $21 on sale, which obiously I'm gonna get 2. Now the big question: Shold I get the 5-20 or the 5-30 for both cars? Accord is putting an...

And I quote directly from my 2010 Ford Fusion manual, page 328, footnote #2: " Use of synthetic or synthetic blend motor oil is not mandatory. Engine oil need only meet the requirement of Ford specification WSS-M2C930-A and the API certification mark ." Per Ford, 7500 miles is the "normal" OCI with a fluid meeting that spec. Many dino fluids meet that spec and are licensed as such. Time, and...

Although I agree with your first senence I disagree with your reasoning. First Tolerance. Tolerance is the range that the factory allows the engine cleanrances to fall within. For Example A the tolerance on a two moving parts may be .010-.020. That span between the hypothetical .010 and .020 is the tolerance. Those numbers are the clearance. On Clearnces. They are really no tighter today...

I did a quick google of their most current oil specs. Here's a pdf of Ford's requirements (the 930-A spec) which is a replacement for their older double time test, which has since been dropped. It's slightly less stringent. Honda, I believe still keeps the double time test. It is the IIIG test. Ford would do it for twice the time the test calls for. http://www.swri.org/4org/d08...
