My 540I waning light came on for oil. When I stopped car (shut off) it would not restart.(Would not turn over.) I heard what sounded like a electric motor running. This lasted for a few minutes. This motor sound finally stopped and i tried to start the car again and it started fine. Do you know what this may be?

If you have a 97/98 E39 540i and a rough idle ... I just did this ICV Cleaning , and it is so much better. It was very easy to do, and took maybe 15 minutes. Previous symptoms: wouldn't idle well at all after sitting for 15 minutes, stalled really easily, sometimes just sputtered then died. That was gratifying!

Hey all... Got a not so good surprise from my 540i (6spd) the other morning. The engine would not start. Dash lights up strong and I get a loud clicking noise when I turn the key. I have a set of 4 18" MK Motorsports chrome MK1's for sale. These came off my 2002 540i. They have a 74.1mm hub, 5x120 bolt pattern, and a 15mm offset.
