So has anyone here ever made a 5000 miles road trip? I'm really thinking about putting one together for this summer to check out some potential spots to relocate to. This isn't really about truck maintenance yet, just how long you took if you've gone on a really long trip and if it was worth it. I would basically be covering the West/Central areas of the country, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, ...

I am seeing where people say their oil life gauge is gone at 2-3k miles. This is my first time through on my Si and I just turned 5000 miles on this oil change and the gauge still shows 30%. Should I just wait it out til 10 - 20 or go ahead and change it soon?

This is the UOA for my Wifes 2004 Chrysler 300M We have always used Mobil 1 5W/30 and M1 Filters. I am concerned at the wear, could this be due to the milage 80,000 miles and most of the time it's in stop and go traffic. Commuter Car. Should I be looking at a different Oil? Any suggestions? I am considering Castrol EDGE, it states - provides 8X BETTER WEAR PROTECTION THAN MOBIL 1 5W-30

My dad has a 1999 Chevrolet Z-71 for sale. The truck has been stored in a garage and has not seen rain since it was driven off the lot. Unbelievable truck, MUST SEE. Perfect truck for someone who wants a brand new loaded 4X4, but dont want to spend $40,000. The truck only has 5,000 original miles on it and is in perfect condition. Asking $18,500. Call 706-789-3814 or 706-338-9248 for more ...

I have been lurking and soaking up info mostly from this great site since I traded my problem soaked 09 Silverado on a 2010 Tundra DC 4WD 4.6. Thought I would give back and post a report on how the truck has performed during it's first 5000 miles. Right up front I will say this appears to be an EXCELLENT truck, the more I drive it the more I like it. I have only had one issue...

So is every new Toyota programmed to have it's "Maint Reqd" like to come on every 5000 miles? And are you required to go to a Toyota dealer to get the light to turn off? What other "warning" lights are pre-programmed to go off, to make you think something is wrong with your vehicle, to make you think you need to bring your car to the Toyota dealer?

If the cam sensor was bad enough detonation could have been taking place which would explain all of the above. Detonation will destroy an engine if left un checkedlong enough. I have seen a few rare cases of detonation from bad feul or ignition problems that had super high lead, iron levels and other wear metals too that where insane. In fact until the owner mentionedit I would have thought the ...

I joined this forum in Oct 2002, bought my first HD in Feb 07. I didn't have a bike when I joined but I only had 5 more years of child support to pay before I could buy one. I wish I had purchased years ago but I simply couldn't swing it. After all is said and done, glad I'm a biker now, or whatever I am!

June 2009, approximately 3300 miles, 12 days... New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and a sliver of Colorado. 5 national parks visited, 3 state/local parks visited, various national monuments visited, 3 nights in hotel rooms, 6 nights in a tent, 2 nights on a cot under the stars. Totally worth it.

The viscosity. When oil shears, it thins out. So if you look at the viscosity on a UOA, you can compare it to where the oil should be based on its grade (or if you know the virgin viscosity, even better) and determine if the viscosity changed. Oil can also be thinned by dilution from fuel or coolant, so thinned oil doesn't necessarily mean shearing.
