Okay, I bet this question might have been asked dozens of times before, but at the end of the day, I am still confused. I am working on a charting/plotting application. My application will also have WinForms controls. Please note that I dont want to use third party controls. My current options are: GdiPlus : Seems best, but does not supports hardware acceleration. WPF : Practically, its ...

Recently, Simon the Sorcerer was released for the iPhone and I did a search around the forums to see how well it was received. http://www.theiphoneappreview.com/08...-the-sorcer er/ These older retro games being released for mobiles are a great way to gauge what the younger "3D" generation think of older games. While many praised the game, a large number complained about not being...

Hi folks -- Looking for a bit of advice on what areas to spend my money on, replacing my old computer. I'm a web developer who spends a lot of time in Photoshop, Flash, and Illustrator, and I also run a local Apache instance that I use to test PHP/MySQL web applications. I don't game, don't do 3D design, and almost never edit video. With that in mind, I'm looking for some help ...

Hi all, I've been working on this 2d arcade for quite a while, most of my directx programming is based on the tutorial given in http://www.directxtutorial.com , so basicely Im using big sprite sheets for each character. The problem is, when there are more than 5 different characters on the screen the game becoms terribbly slow, my assumption is that, this is caused because of the way Im ...

@Anti! I didn't actually realise the title screen graphic was his. Cool. On a related note, at work I have recently started a pixel art isometric cityscape for an upcoming publication. It's all done lo res, pixel by pixel. I'm having great fun getting back to how I started in graphics. It might be Photoshop, but sometimes it feels like the old Dpaint days (except my mouse now works ...

If you are supporting Vista SP2 / Windows 7 and up only, then you might consider using Direct2D [ ^ ], a new hardware-accelerated immediate-mode Windows graphics API. You will have to do a bunch of interop but if you badly need the performance it could be worth it. Otherwise, you should be able to get decent performance out of GDI+ if you optimize well - buffering, batching, etc. If you use ...

If the graphics were sprites, I'd probably like the game even more. I really don't know why game companies are so obsessed with keeping their flagship IPs in 3-D these days... Not that it detracts from this game that much.
