I have a 29er rear wheel that is flexy as heck. I built it on the super cheapskate. I basically recycled a slightly tacoed DT Swiss X470 hoop that I managed to tweak back fairly straight. I'm 200#, and ride mostly XC stuff with some high country rocky stuff on occasion. I don't typically have a problem with warping light XC rims. I have the spokes as tight as I feel I can get, but if I ...

Would anyone care to share their impressions of the 2008 Stumpjumper FSR 29er? I'm in the market for one. The '09's loose the brain, so that is a deal breaker for me. Tonight I'll demo a 26er Stumpy FSR, but I'm sure the 29er will feel quite a bit different. No 29ers to demo. This will replace my '04 Stumpjumper FSR and compliment my 29er rigid SS. I love the feel of the 29er ride and feel...

Three rides so far. Love the bike. I bought it through Jenson USA. They are blowing them out. I bought it because I already have a Jamis Dakar XLT that I love but is overkill for 90% of my rides. I ride mostly from my house on a loop that involves some pavement, orchards, fire roads, out to a local park that has several trails. I want to make my Dakar into more of a AM/Shuttle/...

Hi everybody I want to raise the front of y bike, so I'm thinking about a longer fork. Did anyone ever tried a 29er fork on a 26er? Something like a 460mm axel to crown. Most modern xc forks are about this height, so will it be too high?
I figure people at Santa Cruz probably check this forum now and then, so here is a little note for them. All of my friends used to ride Blurs. Now 4 out of 5 are on a 29er of some sort- mostly Moots and Gary Fisher. I love my Blur, but am interested in seeing what all the fuss is about. It's about time you guys came out with a 29er of your own. A soft tail would be ideal, as that is a...

Wheels are true but I notice at slow speeds the spokes are real creaky. Is that an indicator of anything, are they loose, or is that of no consequence? I've never noticed this on any other bike, road or mtn. Thanks!

Didn't know if this should be put in 29er section or SS section, guess it's just general bike crap. After riding my monocog a bit, (shameless plug: see flea mrkt.) and having tried my friends Carver, I just ordered a 08 Trek 69er, (work in a shop and got a good price on a 08 leftovers). Anyone on here ridden one? likes, dislikes? I am planning on using this as my primary bike and possibly ...

I climb better on the 29er. Traction is better, especially over rough terrain. I no longer have to wrestle the bike to keep the front wheel on the ground on steep climbs. The 29er feels less lively, but is more stable. Although the climbs felt slower at first, they were actually faster. The slower feeling cane from the smoothness of the ride. I started my 29er journey with a Pugsley and ...

Thanks for the help guys I'm looking for the Surly Karate Monkey and the Instigator. The Salsa Cromoto 26 looks cool to, but is only 425mm, so it might be too short. By the way, I'm talking about a 26'' front wheel.
