My sisters boy friend changed the air filter on her 1998 Saturn SL2. After he finished, the car idles high--- at 4000 rpms and when you give it gas to try to "unstick" the throttle, it bogs down. The guy swears he didn't touch anything except the plastic air intake and the filter. He says everything is attached just as it was before he changed the air filter. Note, this car is not ...

Thanks MP. I'm going to go over to their house in a couple of hours and help them out. I'll check the things you suggested. Could a bad sensor of some sort cause this problem?

I have a chance to purchace a 1998 SL2 with a blown engine. A mechanic friend has told me that the engine is model year specific, is this true and what makes it so? I have a daughter that needs a car next spring and this could make a good one for her once that engine is replaced.

I opened the sunroof only a few inches today and could not get it to shut all the way and could not get it to open further unless I kept rocking the switch back and forth. I was able to get the sunroof to slide forward but it stops at the point where the back should drop down to lock in place and will not close any further...is it jambed or possibly a problem with the switch?

Just a quick note to keep you all up to date.... After I did all th work mentioned above, the car ran really well for about a month. Then yesterday, it died again as I was pulling out of a parking lot. I did change the O2 sensor, but I've never looked at the MAP. I am going to try and find a short in the 5v circuit using some stuff sent to me by oldnuc, but I'm also going to:...

In great condition. Just replaced brakes and brake pads (like a few weeks ago), same time got a tune up with new spark plugs, fuel filter, air, motor mounts, etc. Tires in great condition, has a sun roof (got stuck but I think it just needs some lube) but other than the sun roof everything is in good condition. I bought it to use for a long time, that's why I have been fixing ...

There are aftermarket mufflers for under $50. Check the auto parts stores. I personally like the Thrush glass packs. They are reasonably quiet under light load, breath well, and seem to last as long as any other. The last one I bought 7 years ago was around $22. You need to repair it because a leak in the exhaust can seep into the car (carbon monoxide). Plus, if you get a ticket, it will be more ...
